I can’t think of anyone who actually enjoys dieting. Dieting takes away all of our favorite foods. We can no longer sit down with our good friends Ben & Jerry while we watch our favorite TV show. Instead dieting leaves us with fruit and vegetables and an exercise program. It’s so tempted to think about cheating on our diet. There are so many good things to eat, but instead we find ourselves eating a salad with bean sprouts and feel lucky to have finally found a salad dressing that tastes half way decent. But, does dieting have to be this way? Could you quite possibly find ways that let you feel like you’re cheating on your diet without increasing your waist band?
Safe Ways to Cheat On Your Diet #1: Cut Portion Sizes
As Americans we eat huge portion sizes that are 2 to 4 times bigger than they should be. Eating serving sizes are a wonderful and safe way to cheat on your diet. Instead of sitting down and eating a whole pint of ice cream, portion out a serving, which is half a cup, and eat it slowly actually tasting and enjoying what you are eating.
Safe Ways to Cheat On Your Diet #2: Choose Lower Calorie/Fat Options
There are so many wonderful low calorie/low fat options available these days. Many companies are aware that American’s are trying to diet so they are making low fat versions of their popular brands. For example, you can get low fat Ben & Jerry’s ice cream that is actually quite good. While this is a very safe way to cheat on your diet you need to remember not to eat more than the serving size. Eating two servings of ice cream that is half the fat defeats the purpose of that low fat product.
Safe Ways to Cheat On Your Diet #3: Individually Packaged Foods
People who diet sometimes have problems cutting their portions themselves. This makes individually packaged foods a safe way to cheat on your diet. There are several wonderful foods that are packaged in portion sizes. I highly suggest the 100 Calorie Packs that are available and I also suggest Lay’s Baked Potato chips that are packaged in portion sizes.
Safe Ways to Cheat On Your Diet #4: Small Bites
Sometimes all you need is a small bite of something sinful. When you go out to eat and there is a dessert buffet, you may think you have to stay away completely because you’re on a diet, but that’s not so. Most dessert buffets have very small pieces of desserts already cut. This means you can get a very small piece of cake and it still be a safe way to cheat on your diet. If you have to cut or scoop your own portion, remember that you just need a little bite and only fill up half of the dessert plate.
Safe Ways to Cheat On Your Diet #5: Dark Chocolate
This is a way to cheat on your diet that is actually good for you. Dark chocolate is actually good for your heart and having a small piece each day feels like you’re doing something wrong when you’re not. I highly suggest getting a bag of Dove dark chocolate and having one piece a day. This really is a safe way to cheat on your diet because it’s so healthy.
