Are you tired of feeling tired and sluggish day after day? Your metabolism may be running slow but there are foods you can eat to rev up your metabolism naturally. Here are a few tips that I have gathered to aid in boosting metabolism.
The first common mistake that most people do is to cut calories. Cutting calories drastically puts your body’s system into shock. Your body is used to the number of calories you normally provide it each day. Cutting calories sends a signal to your body that it needs to slow down along with your calorie intake. You should never cut calories below 1200 per day. Seek the advice of your personal physician as to the perfect calorie diet for your body.
Drink lots of water. Eight 8 oz. glasses of water should be your minimum intake per day. Do not consume alcohol. Alcohol consumption slows down metabolism.
Do not skip meals, especially breakfast. Your body slows down when you are sleeping and so does your metabolic rate. It will not speed back up until you eat something. Skipping breakfast only keeps your metabolic rate down for a longer period of time than necessary. Eating a sensible breakfast of 400 calories will start your metabolism up and your body will burn more calories faster.
Eat more but in smaller quantities. Instead of three big meals a day, try four to six small meals. This keeps your metabolism working longer and steadier. Concentrate on protein, vegetables and fruits.
Have healthy snacks during the day. These should consist of fruit, yogurt, low fat cheese and nuts. Nuts are high in protein which takes the body longer to break down. It also works harder breaking down protein than carbohydrates and fats. Your body is actually burning and using calories to break down the proteins.
Speaking of proteins, you want to add as many to your diet as possible to make up around 30-40% of your diet. Lean meats such as fish and chicken are excellent sources of protein. Yogurt and low fat cheese are also good sources of protein.
Eat only “good carbohydrates” such as whole grain breads, vegetables and fruits. Basically you want to choose any food high in fiber.
Don’t skip the dairy products. Milk, cheese, and yogurt are all essential to your daily diet. Calcium also works to speed up your metabolism.
Include 500 mg. of Vitamin C in your multivitamin dosage daily. Vitamin C is an antioxidant and studies show it also helps burn calories.
Add some hot peppers to your diet. Jalapenos and Cayenne peppers contain Capsaicin, which stimulates the body to produce more adrenaline. This in turn, speeds up your metabolism and aiding you to burn more calories.
Lift weights or start a program in strength training. Aerobic exercise, Yoga or swimming are also excellent activities to burn calories. Try to exercise for 30 minutes every other day and alternate your activity to take the maximum advantage of increasing your muscle mass.
Be sure to get a full night of sleep with at least 8 hours for a good rest.
Other Foods to Include In Diet:
Spinach: Contains iron which your body needs to get oxygen to your red blood cells or it will slow down your metabolism.
Raspberries: Speeds up metabolism by tripling your normal level when 1,000 mg. included daily.
Bananas: High in potassium and speeds up metabolism by keeping cells hydrated.
Peanut Butter: Contains magnesium, an aid in speeding up your body’s fat burning abilities.
Dark Chocolate: Rich in magnesium also, as is wheat bread

Start the New Year right by changing your diet. You don’t need to go ON a diet to lose weight, you just need to make better choices in what you eat! Happy eating!
