If you are looking for a city to visit for a fun family weekend getaway, might I suggest you give Chattanooga, Tennessee a look. While Chattanooga might not seem like a great family getaway destination, Chattanooga has really stepped up its effort to promote tourism in the city. The city has made a lot of great changes in the last 5 years that make the city more tourist friendly. Chattanooga has a lot of activities including a world class aquarium, amusement parks, and much more. There are attractions that will appeal to all members of your family.

The Tennessee Aquarium located in Chattanooga, Tennessee is one of Chattanooga’s well known attractions. The Tennessee Aquarium is the largest freshwater aquarium in the world. When you visit the Tennessee Aquarium, make sure you at take a least 2 hours to tour the aquarium. There is also a 3D Imax theater next to the aquarium as well. There are also a lot of attractions in Chattanooga on Lookout Mountain. One of these attractions is Rock City. Rock City is famous for the over 900 red barns painted “See Rock City” that were scattered along the south. Rock City boasts impressive natural rock formations. You can also try to fit through Fat Man Squeeze and walk across that swinging suspension wood bridge. Rock City also claims that you can view seven states from the high point of Lovers Leap. Ruby Falls is also located on Lookout Mountain. Ruby Falls is a 145ft underground water fall. This formation was said to have formed over 200 million years ago. You can learn more about Ruby Falls at their website www.RubyFalls.com.
One of my favorite Chattanooga area attractions is Lake Winnepesaukah. Lake Winnepesaukah is a carnival style amusement park located minutes out of Chattanooga in Rossville, Georgia. The park is like a mix of a traveling carnival and a theme park. The park has 3 roller coasters, a boat chute , carnival games, paddle boats, and many other carnival rides. The park admission is reasonably price, and best of all your parking is free. You can find more on Lake Winnie (what locals call the park) at www.LakeWinnie.com.
These are just a few of the many attractions that Chattanooga has to offer. There is so much more to see and to in Chattanooga. Not only could you spend a weekend getaway in Chattanooga, you could stay for a whole week and still have not experienced everything.
