Some of the shows that Air America offers are The Young Turks, The Sam Seder Show, The Al Franken Show, The Rachel Maddow Show, and The Randi Rhodes Show. Known for her blunt in your face attitude Randi Rhodes pulls no punches. Born Randi Bueten on January 28, 1959 in Brooklyn, New York, Randi is an American liberal talk radio personality. Randi enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1977 and worked as a mechanic in Texas, achieving the rank of Airman First Class. This is more than present with her constant support of the troops in Iraq. Randi has been described as rude, crude, loud, brazen, gleefully scatological and she loves every word of it.
Sam Seder born November 28, 1966 is a liberal comedian, writer, actor, film director, and television producer-director. Sam originally started on Air America aside Janeane Garofalo on The Majority Report when Janeane departed Sam was offered his own show and a renewed contract. Sam is intelligent and straight forward with a desperate need to change the current administration and the way this country is going.
The Young Turks is made up of Cenk Uygur, Ben Mankiewicz, and Jill Pike, combining politics, sex, news, pop culture, current affairs and personal stories. The show claims not to make the news but to make the news sexy. Young, fresh and hip perspectives on world news and current affairs has made them the pioneers of the new generation of liberals. They were made famous for their 99 hour “Live, On Air Filibuster” conducted during the nomination of Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The Rachel Maddow Show is hosted by Rachel Maddow a political activist born April 1, 1973. Her political activism has focused on AIDS and prisoners’ rights, especially the prevention of the spread of HIV and AIDS in prisons. She is also an outspoken advocate for gay and lesbian issues, including same-sex marriage. Rachel started at Air America on the show Unfiltered with Chuck D and Lizz Winstead until its cancellation in 2005. Rachel was then given her own show which has since moved to two hours. Rachel’s show is filled with comedy and a fun-filled look at politics today. She’s witty, intelligent and a person who understands how the world should work.
Air America is constantly clashing with its Right Wing enemies on Fox News. In a time when the world was leaning Right, Air America stands up for the Democrats and Left Wingers of the world. I truly believe that they were essential in helping Democrats take the House and Senate in 2006. Fighting for the people they are constantly informing and allowing us to be heard through the radio waves. The variation of phone calls from Republicans and Democrats to Independents and Lefties we are always seeing and hearing different points of views rarely with any type of judgment. It’s an open minded radio station that has a lot to say and truly believes the country can begin to transform back into what the forefathers wanted it to be. The Right Wingers would like you to think that Liberals are Progressives and we somehow go against the government and what the country was founded on but in actuality the forefathers were Liberals even leaving clauses in the Constitution so that it could be changed to conform with the times. We aren’t all that different and we’re certainly not all that wrong. The ideas of a Liberal are met with peaceful ways of doing things allowing people more room to breathe. I agree with the need for a universal healthcare that is offered to all residents legally living in the United States and Social Security to help our elderly that are often forgotten. There are many imperfections with our country but none that can’t be shifted with the tides.
With so many protestors out there of the current administration if their efforts were combined it could completely shift the 2008 election. With the help of radio stations like Air America we are bound to unite all of those people together and elect the right person at the right time for the job.
