When it comes to home decorating, bathrooms often end up the most boring looking rooms in the house. Here are some ideas to add pizzazz and appeal to your powder rooms.
Bathroom Pictures
One of the most intriguing bathrooms I ever visited was “papered” with pictures. Every bit of wall space from ceiling to floor was covered with small, framed prints of all kinds. To use this idea, you might cover one wall only this way, or decide to do all of them. Choose an interesting mixture of detailed pictures that appeal to you. Or use pictures of a particular subject or relating to a certain theme only. Another variation of the idea is to hang small pictures along the ceiling edge of the wall to create a wallpaper border look.
Bathroom Decoratives
An easy way to create a unique looking bathroom is to decorate it with unusual objects. Scour interior decoration websites, local garage sales, thrift stores gift stores, and home décor shops to find interesting pieces. When you have a few possibilities, begin playing with placing them in different spots in the room.
Sometimes putting two seemingly unrelated décor items in a grouping or close together will create a special look. For instance, I have a statue of a very feminine draped woman setting in front of a floral arrangement of trailing blossoms. The combination creates a look of a miniature garden scene.
Bathroom Colors
You can decorate your bathroom in a popular color scheme or make up your own from favorite shades. If you have more than one bath, consider having one bath match a color scheme of other rooms of your home, and one being very different. If you think of extra bathrooms as places to experiment with decorating you will have fun trying unusual or wild color schemes. And with wall color, you can always repaint or repaper if not happy with your first tries.

To create a truly unusual bath, choose a unique theme with which to decorate it. Gather ideas by browsing home decorating websites and interior decoration displays in local stores. Then build your own collection or version of themed decoratives. If you put together your own group of décor items relating to a theme, you’ll end up with a more interesting room than one with many matching pieces. For instance, if you love a cute frog-decorated shower curtain you see for sale, buy it. Then piece by piece add a mixture of different frog accessories to your bathroom for a sensational look.
