These simple “Best Dad” Father’s Day pillar candles make an easy homemade gift the kids can make for Dad this year at Father’s Day. It is very simple to Turn a plain pillar candle into a “Best Dad” Father’s Day candle. This simple candle project is great way to add a unique and personalized touches to plain pillar candles.
You can save money by embellishing plain vanilla a pillar candles you buy at the craft store. You will end up with designer looking “Best Dad” Father’s Day candles that are perfect for a simple gift for Dad this June.
To Embellish an Existing Pillar Candle With a “Best Dad” Father’s Day saying you will need:
Colored Candle Waxes
Letter Cookie Cutters
2 Glass bowls
Metallic acrylic paint
Now the first step is to Melt the colored candle wax. Do this in its own bowl. You can do this by simply micro waving the on high for 15 seconds at a time in a glass dish. Microwave in intervals until the wax is melted.
Now, pour the colored melted wax into a glass dish lightly coated with silicone spray. Be sure the wax is not thicker than 1/8 inch thick. If you make the wax embellishments too thick they will look silly sticking out on your pillar candle.
Once the colored wax in the glass dish is solid but still soft you can spray silicone onto your personal letter shaped cookie cutter and press it into the soft wax. Go for sayings that are not too long. “Best Dad,” and “#1 Dad” are great for this Father’s Day candle. “LOVE DAD” would also be great! The less letters you have the larger they can be on your pillar candle!
This is just like cutting out cookies with your cookie cutters and very simple to do. You should not burn your and, but the wax will be warm to the touch.
Remove the excess wax from around the “Best Dad” Father’s Day letter shapes with a knife. You can trim any little details you need to at this point. You could also use a needle or wooden skewer to poke holes, hearts, or any design in the “Best Dad” Father’s Day Candle embellishment. Now, allow the wax personalized letter shapes to cool completely.
You could also cut out a second set of letters in a slightly smaller size and create a layered look.
Once the “Best Dad” Father’s Day candle wax shape is cooled you need to fill one bowl with hot water and one with cold water.
Put your “Best Dad” Father’s Day shaped wax cut out in the hot water to soften it up. While soft wrap the wax cut out around the Father’s Day pillar candle so that the curves of the candle match exactly to your wax cut out design.
Now, immediately put the “Best Dad” Father’s Day wax cut out in cold water so it will hold the curves. I like to put a few ice cubs in my cold water. This helps the curved wax cutout immediate.
Dip your paintbrush into the some more hot wax you have melted in a separate small glass bowl. Paint it onto the back of the curves of the wax “Best Dad” Father’s Day shapes. This will be the glue that holds the personalized Father’s Day cut outs onto your existing pillar candle. Use some hot wax to adhere the wax cut out design to the pillar candle.
Now, once your “Best Dad” Father’s Day words are set onto the candle, and then you can paint the words with a little metallic acrylic paint. Try using antique gold, antique silver, or even copper paint. Let this dry.
