Which spots you find romantic might be dependent upon your own definition of romance. But, here are a few suggested restaurants to dine at for a romantic dinner around Abilene, TX with atmosphere being the main draw:
Perini Ranch Steakhouse
Perini Ranch has some of the best food, not just around Abilene, but in the whole state of Texas. And Texas is what it is all about, serving mainly steaks and vegetables. Their signature dishes consist of ranch roasted prime rib, southern fried catfish, green chile homony, zucchini perini, and perini ranch bread pudding. Some might find Perini Ranch to be a little too rustic for a romantic dinner, but I find the atmosphere very charming. The customer service has always been outstanding the times I have dined there; which I believe is an important element to a romantic evening. Most of us know what poor service can do to one’s mood. Adding to an intimate experience, Perini Ranch lacks the mass-produced feel of other popular steakhouses like Texas Roadhouse or The Outback. Located about 10 miles outside of Abilene, in Buffalo Gap, Perini Ranch is well worth the drive. Just make sure you call ahead of your planned date to schedule a reservation. Also, be aware that Perini Ranch is a private club, so you have to purchase a membership if you want to order alcoholic drinks to enjoy along with your romantic dinner. Don’t let that scare you off though, it is just $3. Or you can purchase a lifetime membership for $20.

Spano’s Italian Cafe and Little Italy
I am suggesting Spano’s as a romantic spot solely on word of mouth, as I have not had the pleasure of eating there yet. It is hard to beat Italian food when it comes to a romantic dinner anyhow. If you are looking for a low-lit, quiet atmosphere and good food, Spano’s sounds like a safe bet. I have heard it is a bit spendy, which might be a good or bad thing depending on whether you associate price with quality or are simply in the mood to splurge. An alternative to Spano’s for a romantic dinner is Little Italy. It has a pleasant, intimate atmosphere with a few more secluded booths in one section. Their menu consists mainly of chicken based dishes, but they do also serve pastas. If you like a little spice in your romance, you might try their Chicken Diablo. Little Italy never disappoints with their friendly service. But my only complaint is that I have found the quality of their food to be inconsistent, ranging from just okay to very good. Still, it is one of the few places in Abilene that has the low-lit, relaxed, quiet atmosphere often appealing to those in search of a place for a romantic dinner.

Like I mentioned before, when I think of romantic, I tend to think Italian. The Olive Garden and Johnny Carino’s both have wonderful food, decent service, and a variety of choices. My personal preference though is for Johnny Carino’s. While I usually do not find chain restaurants to be very romantic, Johnny Carino’s is a very nice Italian restaurant, with a warm atmosphere, peaceful yet lively mood, some cozy seating, and perfectly acceptable place for a family meal or a romantic dinner.

Bedford Street Restaurant & Pub
More than the tasty food, the atmosphere at this English decorated restaurant and pub makes Bedford Street one of Abilene’s best romantic spots. The restaurant has an upscale feel to it without being intimidating. It is a casual place you will not feel silly going dressed to the nines. Much of the seating is sectioned off giving you and your date the feel of privacy, intimacy, and a great place to converse. The lighting sets a soft mood. And adding to the tranquility is usually a little Rod Stewart music, or similar, playing in the background. However, if you are not a fan of that kind of music, it plays low enough you can ignore it. They serve mainly steaks and seafood, and have a fine selection of liquors and wines suitable for any romantic dinner.

Fuji Japanese Steakhouse
Who would have ever thought that watching someone else prepare your meal could make you feel all giddy inside? Not me. Yet there is something fun about the atmosphere of this restaurant. And while it may lack the intimacy of some other restaurants mentioned in this article, the feel good vibe of the place is just so contagious you are bound to share a special dining experience. Its special atmosphere and promise of an enjoyable time together make it a wonderful place for a romantic dinner. It does not hurt also that the cuisine is terrific.

While it may seem a little odd, I find the way McKay’s Bakery smells to be quite romantic. I have heard it said that memories are most often connected to your sense of smell. And I am sure McKay’s has the ability to arouse some fond memories. If the way a place smells sounds like a strange spot for romance, forget I said it and just focus on the fact they bake up some of the most delicious treats in town. Sharing dessert can be a great addition to any romantic dinner.

If you are looking for an inexpensive romantic dinner, you might consider Farolito Restaurant. A tucked away, little, family-owned place serving authentic mexican food. In business for over 65 years, its history adds to its charm. Good food, friendly service, and an intimate atmosphere.
