There are more romantic restaurants in Houston than Katy, but sometimes you may want a romantic dinner without the hassles of traffic or a long drive. So, here are a few suggestions for some restaurants to enjoy a romantic dinner around Katy:
Saltgrass Steakhouse
A nice restaurant with the feel and taste of Texas. And Saltgrass, hands down, has the best steaks in Katy. Their steaks are certified angus beef, topped with garlic butter, and seasoned well. I know there are those people in love with the steaks at The Outback, but the steaks at Saltgrass have always tasted juicier and more flavorful to me. And unlike some other restaurants that serve steak around town, I have never got a bad cut here. Carb addicts beware, their Shiner Bock Beer Bread is hard to resist. And I would recommend their garlic mashed potatoes as a sidewinder. Most people probably just would think about ordering a steak, but I was surprised by how good their shrimp is here. Their gulf coast fried shrimp is the best I have had in Katy; and possibly in all of Houston. And you can never go wrong with their chicken fried steak. Pretty much everything they serve is fresh and delicious. Their portion sizes are large, but if you have room, sharing their two fork-cheese cake or their chocolate, chocolate layer cake is always a nice end to a romantic dinner. Their caramel apple pecan pie is tasty too. Their hostesses are friendly and I have never encountered a problem with their wait staff. How romantic the ambiance is depends partly on where you are seated. There are some booths towards the back of the restaurant that I prefer to be seated in for a more romantic dinner. They are cozy and the noise level is reduced there. The décor is mostly dark browns, and the lighting in the restaurant is soft adding some intimacy to a romantic dinner. They are located near Mason Road at 21855 Katy Freeway, Katy Texas.
Babin’s
Located right next to The Saltgrass Steakhouse is Babin’s Seafood House. Their food and atmosphere has a New Orleans vibe. For a more romantic dinner, I would request a booth here as well, as they are located mainly in the back of the restaurant where it is less crowded and more dimly lit. The atmosphere is intimate, yet lively. They serve a variety of cajun seafood: gumbo, oysters, crawfish, catfish, shrimp, lobster and fresh fish. The most interesting items on the menu are fried alligator and fried green tomatoes. They are a little expensive, but the food and service is good. Babin’s Seafood House is located near Mason Road at 21851 Katy Freeway, Katy Texas.
Bistro 829
For a quieter romantic dinner, try Bistro 829. It is a small, intimate restaurant where you can dine by candlelight and jazz music. Their menu consists of items such as crab cakes, tomato basil soup, salads, Roquefort snapper, boar chops, roasted duck, filet mignon, veal porterhouse, and lamb rack. Their entrée prices range from $17 to $28. They have a nice wine list, as well as a martini menu. They are located at 829 Mason Road, Katy Texas.
Hong Kong Garden
Hong Kong Garden may not scream romantic dinner. Neither the exterior or interior décor is all that exotic. In many ways, it is just a simple Chinese restaurant located in a strip center. But don’t let that fool you. There is a reason Hong Kong Garden has been in Katy for as long as I can remember. They serve good, fresh food at an affordable price. And the wonderful service is a bonus. My favorite items are their egg rolls, hot and sour soup, rice, and Mongolian delight. Hong Kong Garden is an inviting, warm, friendly restaurant where you can enjoy a quiet, relaxing romantic dinner. They are located at 637 South Mason Road, Katy Texas.
