Whether a couple has lived in Manhattan their entire lives or are just visiting the city for the first time, New York offers countless situations for a proposal to take place. No matter how a person wants to propose, here are some options to consider while in Manhattan.
The first idea that came to mind for a place to propose in Manhattan was the Love Statue in upper midtown. This statue is made up simply of four rather large red letters that spell the word “love.” Not just a tourist attraction great for pictures, many people congregate around the statue just for fun. If you and your sweetheart are the adventurous or athletic type, the statue can be climbed up onto. People often even sit in the “O” of the statue. Besides, what better place to declare your love than at the word itself.
How many romantic chic flicks have a scene where two people fall into each others arms at the top of the Empire State Building? One of the most famous places in all of Manhattan, the Empire State Building gives breathtaking views of the city and can be a special place for any couple. Perhaps the only drawback of this plan is that the Empire State Building is one of the most frequented tourist spots in all of Manhattan. However, once one finds the perfect time, this is a fantastic spot to propose at.
Perhaps the most tranquil and peaceful spot to propose at would be Strawberry Fields at Central Park. Maybe the most famous spot in all of the Park, Strawberry Fields is dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. What makes this different than other areas throughout the park is that there are no loud activities allowed in Strawberry Fields. Often people love to sit in the park and have their lunch or relax and enjoy the scenery. If I were planning to propose here, I would pack a romantic picnic for two. Once the meal was completed, I’d pop the question.
Whether living in Manhattan or just visiting for a weekend, Times Square is an entertaining place for somebody to propose at. Times Square offers everything in and around the area, from great restaurants to exciting plays. This allows for the proposal to become more of an event. No matter what time of day it is, I would propose right in the heart of Times Square. To add that extra romantic feel to the proposal, I would employ one of the many sketch artists that surround the area. Not only will you and your wife-to-be have just a remarkable story to tell people. An amazing picture depicting the event is a souvenir to cherish for the rest of your lives together.
Another perfect place for a picnic and a proposal is Union Square Park. On the opposite side of Manhattan than Central Park, Union Square is probably my favorite place in all of the city. Much smaller and more open then Central Park, Union Square offers a different atmosphere than the larger park. There are always people sitting on the steps that lead into the park’s main entrance, and usually there are performers of all kinds throughout the park. A great idea if somebody were to choose Union Square as the place to propose would be to chase down one of the many saxophone players that can be found in the area. Then, give them a few bucks to play a soft and romantic song while you ask the woman of your dreams to be yours forever. Cheesy? Yes. Romantic? You bet.
These are obviously not the only options for a person to propose at in Manhattan. There is always the Ferris Wheel at Toys R’ Us in Times Square if somebody desires a different and fun approach. If you have the money and don’t mind being too cliché, a person can always propose right at Tiffany’s. Countless restaurants, plays, and events are always a “can’t miss” way for a person to pop the question. No matter which way a person chooses to propose, Manhattan gives a couple an endless amount of possibilities for which to not only celebrate the beginning of an engagement but create a memory that will last a lifetime.
