Gym Trials: Quick Facts
Many gyms offer a free trial. Yes, even the gyms near you.
Some gyms market and advertise that information, while others do not offer the trial unless you ask.
Free gym trials can last anywhere from one day, one week, two weeks or even one month, depending on the gym and the time of year.
How to Get a Free Trial
The best way to get a free trial of a gym is to walk in the door and ask for one. It is possible to call ahead and set up an appointment at most gyms, if you need to.
Meet with a sales representative, take a tour and ask what kind of free trials are offered. Do the necessary paperwork, and be prepared to try the gym that day. You’re already there, so go for it.
How to Test Drive a Gym
Once you get a free trial, what is the best way to try out the gym?
Hours – It is imperative that you use the gym trial during the hours when you would normally exercise. The only way to determine how busy a gym is, and how many people are on the machines, in the classes, using the equipment, and using the showers is to go at your “normal” work out time. Insider Tip: The busiest hours at any gym are between 4 and 6 pm. The busiest day of the week is Monday.
Parking – By going to the gym at the hours you would normally exercise, you can determine for yourself if there is ample and safe parking. This is also the best way to see that the driveway and walkways are clear of any snow or debris
Sample the Classes – Depending on how long your gym trial is, you may have the unique opportunity to try up to a half dozen classes. By trying a variety of classes you will expose yourself to the style of the gym’s different teachers, find an exercise class you may love, and you will meet many other fellow gym members.
Check cleanliness – Check the overall cleanliness of the gym. Are newspapers and magazines stacked neatly or do they cover the floor? Are there spray bottles andpaper towels readily available to members for cleaning up after themselves? Are there trash baskets and or recycling bins in the gym that are not overflowing?
Use the Locker Room and or Bathroom – Another way to check a gym’s cleanliness is to actually use the locker room, bathroom and or shower.
Use it – The number one way to test drive a gym and take full advantage of your free gym trial is to actually go ahead and use the gym. Unless the trial comes with restrictions, use the gym as many times as you can during the trial period to get a good sense of they gym, its services and amenities, and to see if it suits your needs.
