Hand painted English Country furniture takes it inspiration from the beautiful and warm colors found in nature. Tip: My favorite combination of paint colors is Rain Blue, found at Sherwin Williams and Humble Gold, which can be found at Sherwin Williams as well.
Now, the first step is to start sanding the surface of your outdated Nightstand.
Once you have the surface lightly sanded, you should wipe off the dust with a clean dry clothe. An old white t-shirt will work here really well, so save them when they get old and can no longer be worn.
Now, move on to the next step. You are ready to put a coat of primer.
If you want a rustic Blue English Country Nightstand try putting the primer on with one of the 5″ brushes.
Now, you need to allow your primer to dry completely.
Put on a coat of your base yellow paint. This is the Humble Gold color. You will eventually see this through the final paint finish on the Blue English Country Nightstand.
Now you are ready to paint your nightstand with the real color you wish it to be. This is the Rain Blue.
Don’t be scared to choose a nice and cheery blue, you can antique it later.
Once your Blue English Country Nightstand color has dried you are ready to move on.
Use you sand paper to start roughing it up.
Once you have finished sanding the Nightstand surface wipe the surface down with a clean dry cloth.
Now, to darken or antique the refurbished night stand, you can use a mixture of ½ wood stain and ½ glaze to darken your piece. This darkening will add years of dirt and the progress aging process.
To do this mix your paint and glaze in a plastic container. Use a white rag or another old t-shirt to rub the stain onto the Nightstand.
You can do this process until you have darkened or antique your piece as much as you want.
