Capcom announced today that the successful Resident Evil video game series, which has sold over 30 million games worldwide, is coming to the Nintendo Wii with two new titles.
Capcom will release Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition this summer. It will be a new version of the award-winning game that will take advantage of the Wii’s innovative controller functionality. Capcom also announced that a brand new game, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, which will be released at a later date.
“Resident Evil has become one of the premier franchises in the games industry, with more than 30 million RE games sold around the world,” said Jack Symon, director, product marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “The innovative controller functionality of the Wii will allow us to design innovative, original game play never before seen in a Resident Evil game. With RE4, we’re challenging the Wii hardware to meet Resident Evil, while in The Umbrella Chronicles, we’re adapting Resident Evil to the innovations of the Wii.”
Resident Evil 4 is one of the highest rated video games on GameRankings.com and Metacritic.com. The game has won dozens of awards and nominations for its amazing game play and re-invention of the survival horror video game genre.
The game will hit the Wii with Wii Remote and Nunchuck support. This will allow gamers to immerse themselves in the game in a brand new way, creating a seemingly new game experience. Capcom is offering new and more immersive senses of control to gamers with the release of Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. Capcom is making sure, however, to keep all of the game systems intact, so you know you’ll be playing Resident Evil 4.
In the game, players will take the role of Leon Kennedy, who explores a town overrun by cultists, mutants, and mind controlled villagers. Gamers will use the Wii Remote to aim, fire, slash and avoid adversaries. Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition will also contain the additional content that was included in the Playstation 2 version of the game.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a brand new game in the franchise, which will be created specifically with the uniqueness of the Wii in mind. The action/shooter hybrid will reveal the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2, and 3.
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles will combine first-person, light-gun style combat with interactive pathways, multiple weapons, and new enemies. The goal is to create A new Resident Evil experience on the Wii.
