Most of us would love to give our homes a makeover. The problem is when you start looking into how much it will actually cost you. That means looking into it is as far as your going to get. Actually doing something about it is now becoming a dream. The cost to do things around the house can be really high. Maybe you don’t need all the new things you thought you did. I’m going to show you some ways to fix up your home the cheaper way.
If you have the cash I would suggest a nice fresh layer of paint to start with. Choose a color besides white. This will give it a fresher look. White is a very boring color to have on your walls. Then you have to spend all your time and energy adding things here and there to brighten the place up. Just start from the jump and add some color paint. If your faucet is in great condition then just take it apart and polish it up. If its not in good condition, then go pick up a new one. If your cabinets are looking warn out you can save thousands by taking the doors off of them and pulling the drawers out. Sand them all down and re paint them. Place everything back in place and tighten all screws. They sell new handles for a cheap price also. Or you can just re paint the ones you have if that’s an option. If your appliance don’t match then that’s okay. There is no need to order another $1000 stove. You can simply call the company and order a replacement door in the color you choose. Before ordering a new panel for your dishwasher, take the door off. Many of them are white on one side and black on the other.
If your floor is looking on the old side, then you can simply replace it. If you have Tile and grout down, then maybe a simply cleaning and re grouting may make it look better. If you have chipped tiles, then just replace the broken ones. That will save you from putting in a while new floor. If you have vinyl tiles or sheet vinyl you may even be able to place the new vinyl over top the old stuff. This will save you some work in the bathroom. Replace the kitchen faucet and a new toilet seat and your bathroom will look like new once again. If your shower is on its last let then You can consider a replacement. They have some that they install right over your shower and for a fraction of the price.
Once again you should start with paint in here. Use color as this will brighten up the room. Add a brighter light fixture so the light can add to the color of the room. If you bed is old looking you can replace the frame or simply paint it. Add some paint to dressers to match your bed frame. If you have a larger closet then invest in some shelves. My husband just added lots of space in our closet for under $150. He added a few wire shelves and then 8 wire drawers. I cant tell you how much nicer our closet looks. Add some simple valances to jazz up your windows.
Entry doors are the first thing a person sees as they enter the home. If you have wood doors you can simply re varnish them. If you have metal doors then take them down, give them a quick wash and paint them. Make sure the paint you buy if for metal and its waterproof. Spend a little extra money and have a professional carpet cleaning company come out and clean your carpet when your done with all other repairs. They have the equipment to get it done a lot better then you could and its still cheaper then replacing all the carpet.
