Check out Yellowstone National Park in the Winter

by sumonova

Yellowstone National Park is my playground. I can’t think of a place I would rather be then Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park was our nations first National Park. It is called the oldest and the best. It became a National Park in l872. It is on the northwest corner of the state of Wyoming and has 2.2 million acres of land. Yellowstone National Park is the largest geyser basin in the world with over 300 geysers and the most faithful geyser in the world, Old Faithful. Old Faithful isn’t quite as faithful as it use to be since every year it seems to be taking longer between eruptions but it is still very faithful and it always puts on a great show.

The weather in Yellowstone National Park in the winter can be cold and unpredictable so you have to plan on dressing for the most hard winter conditions. Car traffic is not allowed in Yellowstone National Park in the winter but you can reserve a seat on a snow tram or you can take a snowmobile into the park. The snowmobile rules have and are changing so it is best to check with the National Park Service to find out what the snowmobile rules are at http://www.travelyellowstone.com/dynamic/mz_viewer.htm?articleid=2

Yellowstone National Park in winter can be a wonderful and memorable experience. The animals can be seen in their winter climate. Some of the animals are hibernating or have left the park but there is still a lot of animal activity to see. You can see buffalo roaming about pushing their heads across the snow as they dig for food. When we went to Yellowstone we were lucky enough to see a squirrel. That doesn’t sound too exciting but is really was.

In the winter most of Yellowstone National Park is closed to visitors but the part that remains open is the most spectacular part of the park that has easy access. Mammoth is still open and it has winter camping. Mammoth is on the northwest park of Yellowstone National Park. The hot springs at Mammoth can be wonderful in the winter. The Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel is open in the winter and you can phone (307)344-7311 to get a reservation and more lodging information.

In the winter you can go to see Old Faithful. The Old Faithful snow lodge is open and you can get a room at the Old Faithful snow lodge in the winter but you will need reservations because the Old Faithful snow lodge is a very popular place to go in winter. You can call (307)344-7311 for reservations and more information on lodging in Yellowstone National Park.
