I am always looking for a new way to dress up my computer monitor for the different holidays. Christmas is one of the easiest holidays to decorate for. This simple Christmas computer monitor accessory will transform your computer monitor into a unique and fun Christmas decoration in your home!
To make this Simple Christmas computer Monitor Frame You Will Need:
Tape measure
Green Foam core board
Velcro (self sticking kind)
Exacto knife
Hole punch (optional)
Scissors
Fun foam or other foam core board colors
Christmas lights (optional)
Green Marker
The first step is to measure your computer monitor. You need to be pretty exact, so this fun accessory will fit your Computer monitor.
Measure the inside frame of the monitor, where is touches the screen. Now, measure the outside edges of the Computer monitor.
Now, this will be the dimension for your Christmas tree frame. The tree frame will stick out slightly further than your monitor, but you do not want it to cover any of your computer screen.
Now, take your sheet of green foam core board and measure out the inside square of your computer monitor. I like to draw this on with a green marker. Just make this square the same size that you measured your computer screen to be.
Tip: plywood can be substituted for the foam core board if you like to work with wood.
Now, you need to draw your Christmas tree outline on the outside of this square. To do this correctly, I like to use some thin masking tape to mark off the outside square of my computer monitor. This will ensure that my tree covers the outside of the entire computer monitor.
Now, use your green marker to draw out your Christmas tree. You can go for the minimalist look and simple draw a large triangle that fits around the taped square.
For a more traditional look draw a large triangle that fits amply over the taped off outer square. Now, take your green marker and slowly zig zag your way down the left and right sides. This will easily make the branches of your Christmas tree.
Now, to cut out this fun Christmas tree computer monitor accessory break out that exacto knife. Cut out the outer lines you drew. Remove the masking tape. Now, cut out your inner square that your drew.
Go ahead and hold it up to your computer monitor to make sure it fits.
Now, apply your double-sided Velcro to the back of the foam core board. Pell off the stick back and stick it in place. Now, peel off the other sticky back and place it on the computer monitor.
Now, you need to embellish and decorate your Christmas tree. Fun foam and other foam core board are perfect for this. Just cut your ornament shapes and the tree topper out and glue them on with hot glue.
If you prefer a more uniform look you could use a needle to poke a small hole in the end of each Christmas tree branch. You can slip a real ornament hook through the hole and actually hang one real ornament on each hook!
To light your Christmas tree take it off of your computer monitor. Use a whole punch to make holes throughout the Christmas tree. On the back insert your Christmas lights. You will need to tape them in place and have one light poking through each hole. This will look best if your computer monitor faces the wall! You do not want everyone to see all the cords and tape on the back of your fun computer monitor accessory!
