Candles are some of the most popular home accessories available. They not only provide ambiance and light, they also can reflect the style of your home. To coincide with the popular ethnic decor of today, you might consider crafting a mosaic beaded pillar candle to decorate your home.
1. A pillar candle
2. Assorted color seed beads
3. Straight pins with flat heads
4. The desired pattern
Decorating the Candle
Before you begin to actually construct your mosaic beaded candle, you must decide on the design and pattern that you wish to create. You can get ideas from ethnic decor magazines, craft patterns, or out of your own imagination.
You must copy this pattern onto a piece of paper that is the same size as the pillar candle you intend to decorate. To do this, simply roll the candle across a piece of paper, tracing the edges. Then, copy the pattern onto the paper. After that, you will want to transfer the pattern to the candle surface. To do this, place the paper pattern on the candle and use a pin to poke through the paper into the candle wax. Remove the paper and you will have a guide to follow. It is a good idea to do one color, or section of pattern, at a time.
To create the beaded mosaic pattern, you want to use different colored seed beads. The beads should have large enough holes to fit the straight pin, and should be large enough to have their individual colors noticed.
Each seed bead should be put on a pin and then pushed straight into the pillar candle. You should follow the small holes created when you were transferring the pattern from the paper. The best outcome is achieved if you space the beaded pins an even distance apart. It is also important to be sure that they are stuck in to the same depth.
This method of creating a mosaic beaded pillar candle can be done for any type of design that you wish. Truly mosaic style designs with many colors look great. However, you can make simple stripes, dots, or other geometric patterns as well.
Care in Use
For safety’s sake, it is important to remove the pin and bead when the candle is being burned. Pins should be removed further and further down as the candle gets shorter. Remember that the pins can get very hot if the flame is near them, and the glass beads may be very hot or even break if they get super-heated.
These mosaic beaded candles are easy to craft and require little special care. They will provide you, however, a very lovely ethnic accent for your home. The light shining on the sparkling beads will increase the beauty of these mosaic beaded pillar candles.
