Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin / Konami / $34.99
Portrait of Ruin is the latest installment of the venerable Castlevania series on Nintendo’s handhelds, where it has had the most success since the series glory days. The ability to switch between characters are your whim and being able to tackle bosses online with a friend are additions to the series that are sure to make this installment a hit. Portrait of Ruin also looks to be one of the better DS games to be released for the next couple of months.
Kirby: Squeak Squad / Nintendo / $34.99
The classic platformer returns with a unique addition to the stylus. In Kirby’s latest incarnation, the same classic game play remains and Kirby’s unique ability is added upon with the use of the stylus. Players will be able to drag and combine stored abilities to create entirely new ones, which can lead to fighting bosses in a new way or reaching previously unattainable areas.
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops / Konami / $39.99
Six years after Snake Eater, Portable Ops will entail Big Boss’ efforts in taking down Fox and establishing Fox Hound. One of the most highly anticipated games ever to be announced for a handheld system, the latest installment of Hideo Kojima’s famed Metal Gear series doesn’t look to disappoint. From recruiting your own squad and taking the fight online, this game may be the biggest of the entire winter season.
Metal Slug Anthology / SNK Playmore / $39.99
The beautiful drawings and witty humor found in the classic Metal Slug games returns in seven games. Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5, and even the elusive Metal Slug 6 is included in the massive anthology, which promises to be one of the most sought after titles on the handheld market. With Wi-Fi support, hardcore Metal Slug fans won’t put down their PSP for some time.
Star Wars: Lethal Alliance / Ubisoft / $34.99(DS) $39.99(PSP)
Devoid of lightsabers and the force, Lethal Alliance promises an interesting look at the Star Wars universe through the eyes of a twi’lek and her trusty droid. Taking place between Episodes 3 and 4, the game will have its own original story within the Star Wars universe. Rather than using the usual lightsaber or force powers, the player will have to rely on skill and the use of their droid. No cooperative mode here, but there is a competitive multiplayer mode.
