So, you met online, either at Match.com, eHarmony.com or Seniorfinder. com-you really can’t remember, because after awhile they all run together. You began slowly, sending emails, just getting to know each other. Soon, the emails were flying fast and furious and you both discovered that there was some common ground and enough uncommon ground to make it interesting. Then you both decide to have a first phone call. Both of you were a little nervous, but you took the plunge. The conversations were easygoing and together you decided to make a first date.
Now, where do you go, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, if you are over fifty and want to meet someone for the first time? Actually have a first date.
It really shouldn’t be that hard because Fort Wayne is nicknamed the “City of Restaurants.” There are over 150 of them throughout the city. But, sometimes the more there is of a certain commodity; the harder it is to make a decision. Restaurants in Fort Wayne are a multiple commodity.
The best place for a first meeting date in Fort Wayne, Indiana is Don Hall’s Old Gas House located on Superior and Spy Run Avenue. Here’s why:
The Old Gas House is elegant and low key at the same time. It has a touch of the romantic, but not overly so. There is more than ample parking. It is well-lit, and the entrance way is open and breezy. It is a spacious, full-service restaurant. The food is great, Don Hall’s is known for its grilled steaks cooked just to your specifications. Conversation is easily heard, a nice amenity for a first meeting. If the first drink together goes well, you might decide to take the stairs around the corner and dine at their Takaoka of Japan Restaurant. There are Japanese chef’s dazzling you while stir frying the meal you order right in front of you- this is really a lot of fun. And, after all of this, if the night has gone towards the idealistic, a horse drawn carriage is often parked in the lot waiting to take you for a tour under the moonlight in historic Fort Wayne.
Now, often, these first meeting dates are not what we hope they would be. The person has told you a falsehood or two that is immediately apparent upon meeting. Or, as you converse you find the person has told you consistent lies from the start, beginning with the fact, that instead of being divorced, they are ‘separated’. I think it is a farce that dating sites let ‘separated’ individuals participate on them. It is really hard enough to meet eligible people without playing that game on a dating site. So, now, what to do? My friend, Betty, has me call her on her cell phone approximately 10 minutes after her date is supposed to begin. We have figured out that that will give her enough time to access the veracity of any stories told. But, the reason, that I believe with all my heart that the Old Gas House is the best place for this kind of date is this. The exit to the parking lot is located directly next to the restrooms. And now is the time to go! Fast!
Don Hall’s Old Gas House is located at 305 E. Superior Street, downtown Fort Wayne. Reservations are accepted at 260-426-3411
