Everyone knows that giving to charity is a positive action. Have you ever thought about donating a car? There are a lot of upsides to donating a car, besides just doing a good thing. For whatever you philanthropic or personal reasons may be, it is totally tax deductible (most can supply you with the proper forms). You should be able to claim fair market value for the vehicle on your tax return. Most of the charities arrange for the car to be picked up at no cost to you, which is available in most cities in the United States.
Nashville Tennessee has two outstanding and well-known locations for car donation facilities. Goodwill Ministries is well known for years of service in all communities nation wide. “The vehicle donation program offers a hassle free opportunity to support our mission.” The vehicles that are donated here are placed in needy families to help get lives back on track. The vehicles must be in running and drivable condition with no major repairs being needed. All vehicles must be titled and registered with the Tennessee Department of Motor Vehicles in the donor’s name. At the time of donation, a valid picture I.D. must be presented with a clear title. The title does have to be signed in front of a representative of Goodwill. You may drop off you r vehicle at the Goodwill main office located at 1015 Herman Street at tenth Avenue North Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. The phone number is 615-742-4151.
The Salvation Army of Nashville Adult Rehabilitation Center is another place in which car donations are greatly appreciated and dates back to the 1800’s. “Want to loose 4,000 pounds, donate a car.” This center is specifically for men who have drug and alcohol addictions and offers a free live in six-month program to help these struggling men get back on their feet. The vehicles that are donated are sold at auctions and the proceeds go to the Salvation Army. The car must be in driving condition to get the most out of the auction. They need a clear title for the vehicle with information as follows: make, model, color, VIN number, mileage, and condition of the vehicle. A form you can pick up at the office for faster service needs to include name, address (for pickup if different), and social security number (for the IRS), as well as the above information about the vehicle. When information is received, a wrecker is contacted who will get in touch with you to arrange a pickup at your location. They do ask that the doors be unlocked with all keys to the vehicle in the ashtray. After the vehicle is picked up, a receipt will be mailed back to you. It usually y takes anywhere from 3-5 months for the vehicle to sale at the auction. After the sale, you will receive another receipt of the amount of the sale. This information is also sent to the IRS to insure proper credit of the donation. This office is located at 140 North First Street Nashville, Tennessee 37213. The phone number is 615-259-2348 extension 1. You can call to set up an appointment or visit the location for assistance Monday through Friday 9-5.
The appreciation of your gift may never be known to you and your family but rest assured it will be a major blessing to someone who will always know that someone out there cared enough to help them and their situation.
