This easy and simple Beer Mug candle is the perfect way to celebrate the St, Patrick’s holidays with a party at home. You may not have Irish blood in you, but everyone I know doesn’t mind a good beer! You can make your beer mug candle green or yellow like the real color of beer. For the color of the more full bodies beers you will need to play around with the colors for this simple candle.
To Make This Simple Beer Mug Candle You Will Need:
1 Clear glass beer mug
Medium Density Gel Wax
1 Prepared Zinc Core Wick
Yellow Candle Dye or Green Candle Dye
Hot glue gun
Fragrance is optional
The first step is squeeze out a glob of hot glue on the bottom of your wick and press it in the center of the bottom of your clear glass beer mug turned candle votive.
Tip: Local beer mugs from your favorite pub are perfect for this! You can also buy mugs in any arts and crafts store for about $5. You could use any clear glass shape that you want though!
Now, take your medium density gel wax and melt it in a double boiler on your stove. I like to use an old metal coffee can for this. Just place it in a pot of water and start adding the candle wax into the coffee can.
If you are going to add the edge you need to do it while the candle wax is completely melted. Pour the dye in and continually stir until the color is evenly mixed and one solid color. You will see this wax looks like little bubbles, like beer would have in it.
If you are going to add fragrance, do it now while the wax is liquid. Continually stir the melted wax.
Now, let the wax sit for a little and get firm.
Repeat by adding another layer of melted wax if you notice there is a small dip in the center for the candle when the wax dries.
Continue this until you have reached the top of the clear glass beer mug or candle votive.
This simple Beer Mug craft is the perfect candle all year long for anyone who loves to hang out and have a cold beer. Just leave out the green dye details to make it a year round homemade Beer Mug candle.
I find great and inexpensive beer mugs at the local Goodwill and Salvation army store all of the time. You can usually get them for about $1 a piece, which makes this a super affordable and unique craft project.
Tip: You could also collect beer mugs from your travels and use them to make these simple beer mug candles. It is a great way to get your collection of beer mugs out on display.
