They are perfect for a country inspired Christmas tree or even a shabby chic Christmas tree. Let the kids help you make these simple Twig Snowflake Ornaments and you can enjoy them for years to come.
To Make these simple Twig Snowflake Ornaments for your Christmas tree out of twigs you will need:
The first step is to find the right selection of twigs to make these Twig Snowflake Ornaments for your Christmas tree. I like to find twigs that are about ¼ inch in diameter. You can cut them to size as you use them.
Go ahead and cut one twig about 5 inches long and two twigs about 3 inches long.
Now, the first step is to glue the twigs together. Lay the longest stick verticle on your work surface. Now, make an X with your next two twigs that are about 3 inches long. Glue them down in an X on the main twig.
Now, take four more 3 inch twigs and make two X’s to fill in the empty space between the first twigs.
Now, use your twine, yarn or ribbon to start wrapping around the middle of the Christmas twig Snowflake Ornament where all of the twigs intersect. To do this start on t back center of the snowflake. You can use a push pin to hole the ribbon in place. Try to use one of those flat metal cork board tacks.
Now, start wrapping your ways around and around the snowflake working in between every single twig in the snowflake.
You can build this center of thread, twine, or Christmas ribbon up until it not only looks good, but also is sturdy.
Tip: Use jute or natural twine for a more rustic or country looking Christmas ornament.
Now, when you are finished tie your twine off in a knot, cut the string and tuck it into the middle bound twine area in the back of the snowflake ornament.
You can add a ribbon by tying it on or even making a loop and using another one of those office push pins to hold in place on the back. Hot glue is also a great way to attach a ribbon to the back of the snowflake.
Now, the kids can always paint these simple snowflake ornaments white. All they need to do is sprinkle on some silver or white glitter while the paint is wet to add some shine.
Now, I think making these simple snowflake ornaments out of light or white colored twigs is a great idea. Have the kids look for tree with white bark, like birch trees. They can use those twigs and really make some unique homemade Christmas tree ornaments.
If you can not find any white twigs, then buy some simple white wood stain. Lay the twigs out on some newspaper and use a foam paint brush to paint them white. White ink would also work. Use a red ribbon to add some more color to your Christmas tree.
