Children enjoy doing arts and crafts anytime during the year. Valentine’s Day is a nice holiday to share gifts with those we love. When thinking of crafts for children, keep their ages and abilities in mind. Young children do not have long attention spans, so plan accordingly. You would not want to give a three year old a hammer and nail set to create something. Compiled here is a list of easy crafts for young children. Parental supervision is required and some of the projects need adult assitance.
(1.)Valentine’s Day Hat
*Red construction paper
*White poster board
Cut out 2 hearts (1 1/2″ tall x 1 3/4″ wide) out of red construction paper.
Cut a strip of poster board to fit around your child’s head. Make it about two inches wide.
Cut red construction paper into strips..
Glue the strips on the outside of the poster to stand up.
Glue a heart over each of the paper strips that are attached to the poster board.
Your child can decorate the hat using lace, stickers, markers, and crayons.
Staple the hat to fit the child.
*Red, pink and purple paint
*Heart cookie cutters
Roll the model magic out onto a table to desired thickness.
Use a heart shaped cookie cutter and cut the hearts from the clay.
Allow the model magic to dry thoroughly.
Once dry, have the child paint the shape.
Allow the paint to dry.
Use strips of magnets and hot glue onto the back of the magnet.
(3.)Valentine’s Day Placemats
*Valentine’s Day themed fabric
*Iron on vinyl
Cut your fabric out into a circle, heart, rectangle, oval or square.
Follow the direction on the iron on vinyl.
(4.)Valentine’s Day Wreath
*Foam heart shapes
*Hot Glue or Foam Glue
Cut the middle out of a paper plate, leaving a ring.
Using foam glue or a hot glue gun, glue the foam shapes around the plate.
Hang for viewing!
(5.)Wriggly Heart Friend
*Red, white and pink construction paper
Cut a large heart from paper.
Glue the eyes on.
Use markers/crayons to create the rest of the face.
Cut 4 long, thin strips from paper.
Fold the strips accordian style.
Glue the stips of paper on for arms and legs.
Cut out small hearts and glue them on for hands and feet.
*Premade cardboard photo frame
*Hot glue gun
*Red, pink and purple beads
Use hot glue to attach bead, stickers and foam hearts to the picture frame.
Lace can also be used.
Allow to dry and insert a picture.
(7.) Lollipop Covers
*Red or pink napkins
*Red, white and pink curling ribbon
Cover the wrapper part of the lollipop with the napkin.
Cut a pice of all three types of curling ribbon.
Use the ribbon to secure the napkin and tie in a knot.
Use scissors to curl the ribbons.
Attach heart stickers for decoration to the napkin.
*Terra cotta pots
*Paint-Red, pink, white and purple
Paint the terra cotta pot however you wish.
Paint stripes, hearts, xoxo’s, etc…
Allow to dry.
If you want, decorate with stickers.
Fill with candy and give as a gift.
(9.)Valentine’s Day Jewelry
*String or yarn
*Red, white, pink and purple beads
Cut a proper length of string to fit your child.
String beads and tie when done.
(10.) Valentine’s Day Collage
*Hearts of different sizes and colors
*Large sheet of paper
Use colored papers and lace to cut out hearts.
Glue hearts into a collage on the large sheet of paper.
