With the commercials pushing our teens drug use problems may be stemming from our household prescriptions or over the counter medicines, many families are now turning to natural remedies to help take care of their families’ health problems.
For a burn:
Vanilla can be used on a burn to keep the burned spot from developing a blister and it can alleviate or prevent any pain that might be associated from that burn. Make sure though that you use only PURE vanilla for that is the key to the vanilla natural remedy.
For an insect bite:
Meat Tenderizer can be used to stop the itching from a mosquito bite. Mix about one cup of water with one teaspoon of meat tenderizer and place on the bite or bites in drops.
For a headache:
Slice a lemon and put it in a half gallon of water. Add a tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of fresh sage. Strain the mixture and take 2 teaspoons up to three times a day.
For a chesty cough:
Take one tablespoon of sugar or honey, two tablespoons of vinegar and a tablespoon or two of butter, put it all in a small saucepan and heat gently till the fat has melted. Once the mixture has cooled just enough, sip it is completely gone.
To help control diarrhea heat up one cup of milk with a few shakes of black pepper (two or three shakes should be fine) and drink.
Drink lemon juice upon waking first thing in the morning. Throughout the day drink plenty of vegetable juice, eat some baked beets and some prunes or figs which have been soaked in warm water to help plump them up. The vegetable juice and the figs add extra fiber to your diet and the beets and lemon juice help with the elimination process. Make sure that you try to eat plenty of whole grains and rice if you can eat that as well. Foods to avoid during this healing process would be dairy products, pasta, white sugar, fried foods and any other starchy foods.
IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome):
A long time herbal remedy for IBS is the use of peppermint oil. I know for a fact that one can get the peppermint needed for alleviating the pain and discomfort of IBS from eating on candy peppermints, peppermint flavored soft chew Rolaids and the best herbal remedy is the use of Altoids peppermints. These peppermints are VERY strong, so be forewarned, but of all of the above items, they work the fastest and the best. A few more suggestions: If you know that you have IBS, make a food diary so you will know which foods will trigger your symptoms and try to eliminate those foods from your diet. With just those two simple steps you can make your IBS a virtual memory.
PMS:Most women will experience some from of physical and/ or emotional changes before and sometimes during their menstrual cycles. A few things to follow would be to take Vitamin B-6 to increase your progesterone to counteract the amount of estrogen being produced during this time. Be forewarned though: in taking too much of this vitamin can be lethal. Do not exceed any more than 200 mg a day. Evening Primrose Oil is often suggested to take to alleviate headache, cramping, bloating, breast pain, depression, and irritability. This herb is available in oil or capsule form and it is recommended that either one be refrigerated once opened. Magnesium and Calcium both are essential for any woman who suffers from PMS. The body’s lack of Magnesium may be associated with cravings for chocolate. The symptoms of mood swings, water retention, food cravings, and pain were significantly decreased when Magnesium and Calcium were added to women’s diets.
