I am the proud mother of two growing girls. When they were a little bit younger, they would wear anything I dressed them in without a fuss. Ah, those were the days! Now that one is a “tween” and her younger sister is quickly approaching that age bracket, buying clothes for them is more of a challenge. My main objectives when purchasing clothes for my children is quality, style and cost. My daughter’s priorities are style and to a lesser degree comfort. Since they still believe that money grows on trees, their vote holds less water than mine! Through the years I have dressed them in many pairs of Faded Glory jeans, which is Walmart’s signature brand, and Gymboree children’s jeans.
Jeans are a staple of every child’s wardrobe. They are worn to school, family gatherings and outside to play. In our house we designate the good jeans from the play jeans. All my daughter’s jeans start out as “good” jeans and then the longer they own them, they get downgraded to the “play” category. Overall fading, especially in the knee area quickly relegates the jeans to the lesser category. Shrinkage from normal washing and drying is also a factor. Gymboree children’s jeans stay true to their original color and size through many washings and dryings. Faded Glory jeans tend to fade and have minimal shrinkage even when washed in cold water and dried on low heat. Score: Gymboree one, Faded Glory zero.
Jeans must be versatile in a child’s wardrobe. Most children prefer patterns and designs on their sweaters and tee shirts. Unadorned, plain blue jeans are a must to have in ample supply. Faded Glory carries mostly plain blue jeans with a few select pairs having some type of embellishment down one or both legs. This makes matching and creating outfits with Faded Glory jeans as a basic wardrobe piece a snap! Gymboree caters to sets and matching pieces from many different clothing lines. Gymboree jeans mainly are designed to mix and match with other pieces from their individual lines. It is difficult to find plain Gymboree jeans with no embellishments either on line or in their retail stores. Score: Faded Glory one, Gymboree one.
Children grow so fast that clothing expenses can really add up. Especially when there is more than one child in the household. Gymboree jeans are most definitely on the expensive side. Full retail price for a pair of children’s jeans is upwards of twenty five dollars. If you can find a pair on the discounted rack, or take advantage of their on line coupons, you can purchase them for less. They do also keep their resale value pretty well, so if they remain in excellent or even very good condition, you can resell them on Ebay. Gymboree clothing fetches top dollar by on line children’s clothing buyers on the well known auction website. If I am just looking to run out to the store and pick up some jeans for my children without paying top dollar, Faded Glory children’s jeans can be purchased for less than fifteen dollars. A quick peek at the clearance rack can most times save me a few dollars too! I see no reason to spend extra money on my daughter’s jeans when I am replacing them so fast. And then trying to keep them in pristine condition so that I can then spend the time listing and selling them to recoup some of my money. I’m giving this one to Faded Glory. Score: Faded Glory two, Gymboree one.
I want my children to be comfortable in their clothing whether they are in school or playing in the park. They are active and full of life and shouldn’t be restricted in their movement while riding their bicycles or going about their school day. Both Faded Glory and Gymboree children’s jeans provide a comfortable waist and easy movement. My younger daughter who seems to be a little bit more sensitive to how her clothes feel, did complain about one pair of Gymboree jeans that felt a bit stiff to her until they were broken in. I was only able to get her to wear them two times, so there was not an ample opportunity for breaking in! For that reason alone, Faded Glory children’s jeans gets another point. Score: Faded Glory three, Gymboree one.
Faded Glory is the clear winner. Gymboree offers many fashionable clothing sets and individual pieces from their boutique lines. For regular children’s jeans that I can incorporate into many different outfit combinations and that I need to replace so often, Faded Glory is the brand for me.
