There are many expenses associated with weddings. Interestingly enough, right up there, after the dress, venue, and food, are the flowers. Real flowers are exceptionally expensive, and the more flowers you have, the more expensive the cost for all of your floral arrangements. Additionally, some flowers cost more than others. Roses and orchids are among the more expensive flowers. But it is possible to have great looking flowers for much less when you choose to use fake flowers for your wedding.
There are other advantages to using fake flowers. My husband is from New York, I am from Idaho, and for complicated reasons, we got married in Boston. Receptions in two states (a week apart) plus a wedding in another? Real flowers are not going to hold up. You’d have to order THREE different sets of flowers for everyone. Plus, we had professional studio shots taken as well. Fake flowers are more practical when you have multiple receptions. Additionally, it is much easier to preserve your bridal bouquet for years when it has no chance of wilting.
When you order real flowers that may not be in season, you will pay even more for them. And when you order roses, well, that is just expensive. The good news is that silk roses do not cost much more than silk flowers of other types (most flower shops won’t charge you more for fake roses than for other fake flowers, but some will). And by ordering fake flowers from an actual florist and having him or her do all of the arranging, you will have a good-looking product at a fraction of the cost of having real flowers done (we saved about $200, but the savings can top $1,000, depending on how many flowers you need).
If you have a talent for arranging flowers and creating boutonnieres, corsages, and bouquets, you can create your own arrangements and save even more. High end craft stores sell silk flowers that look almost real (and you can also purchase fake flowers in bulk from many florists). Making everything yourself can save you $500-$1,500. However, you should be careful. If you want arrangements that are complicated and large, it might be better to leave it to the professionals anyway. After all, you may not have the time to create intricate masterpieces.
There are many ways to cut costs when it comes to your wedding. And whether you have a do-it-yourself wedding, or one that is professionally planned (or something in between), using fake flowers is a great way to reduce the expense of your wedding.
