The first step is choosing a photo of every family member. Any photo will do. Now, you need to photocopy all of the photos onto regular old white copy paper.
Tip: You can always print all of the family photos in color or black and white to create a cohesive look.
Use one wood Rocking Chair for the base of this family tree project.
You need to prime or paint the Rocking Chair first if you would like.
Just remember the color will show through around the family photos, so stick with a color that matches your home decor.
Now, let this paint dry for at least 24 hours. While tat paint is drying though, you can work on other parts of this family tree project.
Take the photo copies of your family members and start cutting them out. They can be cut into shapes or you can even cut out each person in the photo.
Now, once all of your photos are cut out you can use some markers or water color to tint them. This will really only work for black and white or sepia tinted photos.
Now, once the photo cut outs are finished you need to start by laying a photo on the Rocking Chair and using decoupage to attach it to the Rocking Chair. Dip your brush in the decoupage medium and then brush on the family photograph.
You may want to paint on a layer of decoupage medium to the photo and then lay the photo on the chair. You can add more medium on top. Use more decoupage medium to hold this down if necessary.
Continue this process until you cover the entire wooden Rocking Chair with your family photos.
Now, here is a really good tip:
When laying out your photos you can place them strategically like a family tree layout or simple cover the entire chair.
If you do the traditional family tree layout, then once the decoupage medium as dried for about 24 hours you can use paint pens to draw connecting lines, like you would see on a traditional family tree.
You can also add other little hand painted details and embellishments with acrylic paint as well.
Let this final step dry and you are finished.
