Fatal Collision Claims Young Girl’s Life, Leaves Another in Serious Condition

HARKER HEIGHT, TX – Tragedy struck one small central Texas town this morning when two teenage girls are hit by a truck on their way to school.

Amanda Ware and Aurora Shirley, students at Harker Heights High School in Harker Heights, Texas were waiting at the light in front of their school this morning when they were struck by a gravel truck near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 2410 and Verna Lee. The collision was fatal.

Amanda Ware was pronounced dead on the scene. The other girl, Aurora Shirley was seriously injured and was taken to Scott & White Hospital. The families of the two girls have been notified and the school is doing whatever is possible to help them through this crisis.

Latest reports list Shirley in serious but stable condition. Little else is being mentioned about the fatal accident as this time and the community appears to be in shock over this distressing occurrence.

A Crisis Team is available at the school to help and provide counsel and support to students and staff members in the aftermath of this tragedy. Many students and faculty were in shock today after the terrible and unexpected accident. There is no word yet on the driver or the cause of the accident. Update to follow as this story unfolds.

This is not the only fatal incident involving a vehicle that the area has had to face. Saturday, March 2, a fatal head-on collision took the life of one man and two others were injured. According to Local News Station NBC News 6, the accident happened at 12:20 a.m. on Highway 190 one mile west of Rogers. Charges are pending against Dahia Santa Cruz Gutierrez, 28, of Rogers. Gutierrez was driving east when she veered into the westbound lane hitting Kris Edward Snell of Katy, Texas head-on and killing him. A baby in Gutierrez’s car wasn’t injured.

Last week, a Lampasas high school student was killed in a one-car collision. Jordon Evans, 16, was riding in a pick up truck with four friends on FM 3170 just south of Highway 190 near Kempner when the pick up flipped over. Evans died at the scene; the other four students were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Officials say none of the students were wearing seat belts.
