For many Christian singles, finding true love is becoming more and more difficult. This is largely due to the fact that many of them feel that society is becoming a moral morass, and that it is difficult to find other singles that share similar values. The problem is only compounded by the increasing average marriage age. Where singles used to meet people with similar interests in college, they are now entering the workforce and finding the possibilities limited, as the pool of people available to meet dwindles. Even worse – for the especially devout – is the bar scene. No self-respecting devout Christian single actually thinks that he or she will meet a soul mate at a bar. So, increasingly, Christian singles turn to the Internet.
Luckily, there are plenty of Web sites out there devoted to helping Christian singles find each other. Many of them are set up so that you can find profiles of people in the same city, or in a nearby city. This makes it easier to find people that you can meet in person. Here is a sampling of the sites available for Christian online dating:
Christian Cafe (www.christiancafe.com) offers what it claims is the “largest database of Christian singles online.” You can look for friends, dates, or long-term relationships. The site offers a free 10 day trial, so that you can browse pictures and profiles and decide if this is the site for you.
Christian Singles (www.christiansingles.com) features “the fastest growing network of Christians.” Watch out if you are just looking for a nice date – this site is geared for those who are looking for marriage. This not simply a dating site. You are expected to be looking for a long-term marriage relationship.
Christian Soulmates (www.christiansoulmates.com) is more of a “fun” networking site for Christians who are under 30. It really appeals to the Facebook and MySpace crowd, but in a distinctly Christian way. The site offers free basic memberships, and a 10 day free trial of the full membership. Some of the features included on the site are live chat, voice messages, instant messaging, and a “winking” feature. There are also links to handy singles travel opportunities and a book store full of spiritual offerings.
As with any online dating service, however, it is important to note that predators lurk just about anywhere – even on Christian dating sites. So, when meeting anyone in person, be sure to do so in a very public place, and do not give out personal information (such as phone number and address) until you are comfortable. And it always helps to pray – after all, you are Christian!
