We all know work is stressful, but is it more stressful if you have a friend working for you.? Do you think that your frend is better qualified than a total stranger? It definitely depends. There are numbers of ways you can tell if your friend will be a right business partner for you. Is you friend reliable and trustworthy enough to do a job for you? Does your friend respect your authority over them enough to you to be your boss?
I can tell you from experience, a friend worked for me a while ago(i will leave nameless) and did not put in work. My friend would simple give me excuses to why he couldn’t come in. It was the weakiest excuses that if he had a boss that wasn’t his friend he couldn’t pull. I guess he figure we’re cool so therefeore he didn’t take my authority seriously. I gave him time longer than any boss would give any employee before I fired him. Hoping that my friend would change his act and get to work. It was still no good. The excuses got worst and worst each time. I would get upset and upset till I got to the point of saying “work today or your fired”. That took me two and a half month to do. He wasted two and a half month of my time and money. We’re still friends but he will never be my employee every again. Even if it the simplest job, friends may have excuse why they can’t do it because they do not fear the consequences.
If your friend work ethics is good they might be able to do the job faster and better than you. You need to think about if your friend worked hard in high school, go out and look for new opportunity, even keep there appearance up. It all tied together to run a good business. You and your friend need a good work ethics. Just don’t think your friend will be doing all the work. Put it in half and their well be no complication doing the business process. Let your friend know that while on the job you are no longer their friend at the moment you’re the BOSS! When that is establish your friend will respect your authority and call you by your last name.(at work) Do not abuse the work relationship treating them like a third word country employee. Give them the same treatment like any other employee. Do not make them shine unless they deserve because it will cause chaos in the workplace.
Maybe a total stranger is better to hire than a friend because they will always fear losing their job, work harder than your friend and try to kiss your ass more. A brand new employee most of the time tries to show why they should get a better position or a raise in the first six months. I believe a total stranger is more qualified than your best friend. They will give you a 130% everyday. Employment is crucial and no one really want to jeoparadize their position for someone else. Your authority is empowerment to them. They will respect you as their boss because they do not know your “outside work-life”. They only know you as the boss.Strangers is the way to go if it was me.
Friends are good to hang with or talk to but working is a little far fetch. I’m not saying that all friends will disappoint you in the work area but they will free less pressure to get a job done. Friends and work just don’t mix in my book anymore. If their work ethics is up to par then maybe but if they cheated on tested during high school and slack off I will keep that into consideration. Work is a no play zone so get people involve that want to work. Take no time off to be a friend!
