The American Girls Book Collection
The American Girls series of books are designed for readers between 8 and 12 years old. The books are written as short chapter books, with each chapter averaging about 15 pages in length. The books provide both a historical fiction type of story about one of the American Girls dolls, and a special section titled, Looking Back. This section of the book provides factual information about the time period that each American Girl lived, through photographs, illustrations, anecdotal records, and cultural information. This is the history lesson tucked away at the back of the book. Each book has colorful, detailed illustrations throughout the story.
The American Girls Book Collection follows a specific formula for each book in the series for individual American Girls characters. The first book in each series always starts with an introductory book for each character. The books that follow, in each series, continue each American Girls’ story, while adding a new adventure or challenge. Books in the series are meant to be read sequentially, but each book can stand out on its own.
The American Girls Book Collection is available online and at many retail stores. Barnes and Noble stores often have an entire display and shelves dedicated to the American Girls Book Collection, highlighting the popularity of the collection among young girls. The books in each American Girls series are also available as part of the American Girls Collection in a boxed set. The entire boxed set includes the six books for each American Girl in the series.
