Popular MTV show, ‘Punk’d’ will conclude at the end of its current season. The hit TV show stars Ashton Kutcher and became popular with its amusing pranks played on unsuspecting celebrities.
The current series of MTV’s ‘Punk’d’ plays pranks on Evangeline Lilly, Nelly Furtado, Magic Johnson and Hilary Swank.
However this is not the first time it has been said that ‘Punk’d’ will not continue after its current season. In 2003, Aston Kutcher, announced that he was stopping the show at the end of that year’s series. But this was just a ploy by Kutcher to get potential celebrity prank targets to let down their guard. The hit MTV show can back in April 2004 to another successful season.
This time it appears not to be a prank however. A statement has come directly from entertainment president at MTV Music Networks Music Group, Brian Graden. Graden said yesterday, “the show is officially finished this time, but there might be future collaborations with Kutcher on other projects.”
The final season is currently scheduled to air on MTV is a special ‘Sneak Peak Marathon.’ The special airing will show the entire eight shows of the final season back-to-back. The ‘Sneak Peak Marathon’ will occur on April 7, beginning at 1 p.m. Three days later, on April 10, the final series of Punk’d will have a normal schedule as part of a new Tuesday night line up themed “boys being naughty”. ‘Punk’d’ will air at 9pm followed by ‘Scarred’, ‘Real World/Road Rules Inferno’ and ‘Living Lahaina’.
Graden told Reuters that the chance of most ‘Punk’d’ fans sitting down to watch the entire ‘Sneak Peak Marathon’ will be pretty low, but he is hoping that it will get viewerss excited about the new series. The reason for this new innovative way of airing ‘Punk’d’s’ final season according to Graden is that, “We decided to make an event of it.” “We’re looking to experiment with many alternate programming and premier models as a way for things to take hold in an age of technology.”
A special tribute will also be held as a way to say goodbye to ‘Punk’d’ in its final season. This will be in the form of ‘Punk’d Awards’ and will be hosted by Asthon Kutcher. ‘Punk’d Awards’ will be a special show honouring the entire series and is currently set to be aired on June 5 at 9 p.m.
In total there will be eight seasons of ‘Punk’d’
