Not all Days Inns are created equal. In fact there is a wide disparity between them. This one in Turbeville, SC is not one of the best. heh. We were on the way northward after a most wondrous jaunt through Florida and decided to stop one more night so we could hit a place or two more before landing back at home base. We do, sadly, have one of those insipid member cards for Days Inn, so here is where we stopped… let me rephrase, we wanted one of those cards because we had found ourselves staying at so many of the damn things lately… so here we stopped. Heh.
Admittedly it is like 1AM, so the clerk wasn’t all that awake when we checked in. We had to do this through a slot in the door as they apparently lock up tight at sundown. The Male inquired into the card, and this clerk had absolutely no clue what he was talking about. Not a good start. Ah well… $39.99 and all that. We took the room.
In room #114, the wallpaper was white with a subtle blue pattern which was very pretty; unfortunately it had been installed rather haphazardly. It was bubbling up from the wall noticeably and peeling in other places. The dark blue carpet was also laid badly. It’s like the manager had his 13-year-old son do the redecorating. It would have been a nice room if they had gotten the work done professionally. Shame, that.
It had one king-sized bed with (thankfully) stands on both sides, A 2 drawer chest/dresser which served as a TV stand. There was also a cafe-type table in the room with two cloth chairs. There was NO coffee maker in the room. grr argh.
The bathroom was in even more disrepair with the towel rack actually coming out of the wall on one corner. There was good hot water pressure though, and the place was clean in spite of the shoddy workmanship. They supply a packet of cheap shampoo and two soaps, and a hair dryer… along with two very worn and stiff towels. One plus is that the dressing vanity is separate from the main bathroom.
The room would have been well lit had the light bulbs actually worked. heh. The worst part though was the heating unit, which rattled very noisily all night.
There is no restaurant or pool at this Days Inn. No workout room. Nothing extra or special. This is, in my eyes, a roadside dive that ya just drop into when you can’t drive any further. This is not a destination type of hotel. Well actually it is a motel – the room doors open to the parking lot.
The next morning we were able to see the lobby during check out. It was smallish, but did have complimentary coffee & donuts available. It was done in greys with a few cafe tables set up like a very small breakfast diner. Plants tried to brighten the place up a bit.
No problems checking out, but they had no clue about the Days Inn club membership either. This kinda irked us as this meant we would not be able to get credit for that night when we did join.
Ah well. No, I do not recommend this one. I mean yeah it was clean but the staff is dumb as rocks and the decor is shoddy. You could do worse, but there are more hotels to choose from in the area. No, I’ll go somewhere with in-room coffee next time…
