On the third Sunday of June, we will celebrate an annual tradition of honoring one of the most important people in our lives. This special occasion that I am speaking of is Father’s Day. While Father’s Day doesn’t get the same amount of attention that Mother’s Day does, it is still a special day to honor our Fathers.
With Father’s Day quickly approaching in less than a month, picking out the right gift for your father can be a tough task. It seems easier to pick out a gift for your mother than it is your father. With Mother’s day, gifts like flowers, cards, candy, and jewelry are some common ideas for gifts. It is a little harder to decide on a gift for dad unless you give him a boring neck tie. Most fathers will probably not appreciate a dozen roses or a diamond necklace like a mother does. I thought I would give you some gift ideas for father’s day from a father’s point of view. Here are some few ideas.
As a father myself, I know that a lot of us fathers love gadgets and electronic gizmo’s. If your father is very active and exercises, a MP3 player could be a great gift idea. Apple’s iPod and Microsoft’s Zune are very popular portable audio devices that will make a great gift.
If you father is a sports fan and you have the money to spend, plasma and LCD televisions are very popular gifts for Fathers Day. You can’t beat the view and experience of watching a sporting event in HDTV. It seems like you are at the game in person. Tickets to a local sporting event would be a great and less expensive present as well.
Hobby Related Gifts
Another great way to figure out a gift idea for your father is to think about what hobbies he enjoys. If you father is an avid fisherman, you could buy him a new fishing rod as a gift or various other fishing accessories. If your father loves to golf, buy him a round of golf at his favorite course or other golfing accessories as a gift.
Clothing and Accessories Gifts
It may seem like a crazy idea, but some fathers do actually enjoy getting clothes as gifts. If you have a picky father, you might consider a gift card to his favorite clothing store. This is a great idea because your father will have the chance to pick out the clothes he likes. Your father might not have the same taste in clothes that you do .
You could also give your father some accessories such as a watch or a nice pair of sunglasses for a gift. Also a pair of nice dress shoes or a good pair of athletic shoes are great gifts for your father as well.
Personal or Nostalgic Gift
Some of the best and most thoughtful gifts for your father do not have to cost a lot of of money. One of the favorite fathers day gift was a card that my wife and 1 year old son made together. They also made a picture frame that had a picture of my son and a special message from him. Sometime a gift from the heart can beat a gift that comes from a heavy wallet.
Whatever you do for Father’s Day, it really is the thought that counts. With just a little effort you can make this Father’s Day a special day for your father.
