In Part 1, the Master Article Index was created. In Part 2 the Subject Pages were completed. The Complete Subject Index will now be created from Subject Pages.
Make Each Page Easy to Navigate
Before actually building the Complete Subject Index, it is important to create internal navigation on each page. It is also easier for later linking as page “anchors,” or links to specific paragraphs are easier to create on each page and copy to the Complete Subject Index, than it is to create them in a more manual fashion.
1. Go to the site manager and arrange the pages.
From the Site Manager, change the order of the pages so they are alphabetical on the list. Leave the homepage at the top for easy reference. Include the Master Article Index pages either at the top or at the bottom, depending on your preference.
2. Create a page index or navigating paragraph.
The easiest way to create page navigation on FreeWebs is to create a small anchored list at the top of the page. It is also possible to create the navigating paragraph at the bottom of the page. The page navigation will include active hyperlinks to each paragraph. The page index paragraph could also be at the top and the bottom, when the page is long.
3. How to create a Page Index in Freewebs:
a. Go to the Site Manager.

c. Click Insert Paragraph wherever you want the page index.
d. In the new paragraph, click on the chain symbol, which is for adding hyperlinks. One of the choices is “Link to Paragraph.” A list of paragraphs on the page will appear. Select one and then click “Create Link.” An active hyperlink with the name of the paragraph will appear. Do this for each paragraph on the page.
e. Copy the text of the paragraph.
3. Building It
Once the page index is created, go to the home page to create a detailed subject list. The reasons to do this is because someone may be looking for a specific subject on a page that is not one of the subheadings. This list does not have to be typed, you will be using the page index from each page, copied andpasted onto the index to create the Complete Subject Index.
a. Open a second window or tab and log into your Freewebs account, so you now have two versions open.
b. Go to the Site Manager and select home page.
c. Click on the Pencil to open the home page.
d. Scroll wherever in the page you want the Complete Subject Index and click Insert Paragraph.
Paste the copy of the page index from the first page into the new paragraph.
e. Continue to create a hyperlinked page index for each additional page.
f. As you create each page index, copy it and paste into onto the Complete Subject Index.
1. Take the time to alphabetize the subjects from each page after they are pasted onto the index, or come back at the end and alphabetize he entire subject index. as you go, or when you are done.
2. Eliminate any duplication, or adjust the index words to better reflect the specific subjects.
3. Look for any missing subjects. If you are surprised that the page indexes did not yield certain subjects that are included in the articles, go back and add them to relevant pages.
