Many parents who home school their children are sick and tired of hearing about how their kids are not able to socialize. However there are many parents who home school their children and feel that they are so many more opportunities to socialize because they are exposed to so many different people and different situations. One thing that a lot of children don’t learn in school is how to respect others and their beliefs and cultures. In addition many people don’t realize how many group outings and trips home schooled children participate in. Many children who are home schooled are constantly around other children on a daily basis, and don’t miss out on anything.
It is really up to the parents to ensure that their Childs are socialized properly and that they stay as active as possibly. Parents who choose to home school usually set up their child’s curriculum and therefore should make sure that they arrange plenty of outings and trips. It can sometimes for very difficult to organize group outings and trips, but if you want to make sure that your child is not lacking when it comes to socialization than this is definitely necessary. In addition to arranging various group outings for your children it is also important that you teach them how to behave in group environments as well. They should learn to respect others, and express themselves properly. They also need to learn how to pay attention and sit quietly. This is definitely not something that children can just learn by themselves. It has to actually be taught.
They also need to be able to interact with anyone, whether they like them or not. This definitely prepares them for the world when they grow and become adults. So the bottom line is that it is possible for your children to suffer from socialization if they are home schooled, but only if the parents are not doing their part. If parents take the time to socialize them, and teach them how to interact with others there is no reason why they should have any difficulty when it comes to socialization. There have also been many studies that have been done to compare both home schooled children and those who attend public schools, and many have found that those who are home schooled to not suffer at all. In some cases home schooled children actually seemed better socialized, and have higher grades than those that attend publish schools. Of course this does not mean that there is anything wrong with public school. It is really up to the parents and what they feel is best for their children.
One thing that you can do is come up with plenty of activities that allow your child to play. Remember that playtime can also be educational. This will help to ensure that they are getting the physical activity that they really need. One parent in my area takes her child to local fitness centers in order to socialize her daughter with other children and make sure that she is getting the exercise that she needs. Try looking in your local area for children’s fitness centers. There seem to be more and more fitness centers for children popping up all over the country. Depending on your resources and where you live you may be able to create your own gym class for home schoolers. All you really need is the space to conduct various activities that are appropriate for your child’s age group. If you have a home that is big enough you could perhaps conduct these classes in your own home. Or if you know of a group of parents who home school their children and would be willing to participate then you could rotate which home you use. These are just a few suggestions on how to make sure that you home school child develops the proper social skills and stays active.
