Having a hospital birth doesn’t mean that you can’t have a natural labor and natural birth. Unless you are an unlikely high risk pregnancy there is no reason that you can’t have a natural labor and birth.
Don’t Have an Epidermal
Labor is a natural thing. As a female your body designed to give birth. You may have multiple nurses and doctors asking if you want pain receivers, the hospital might even insist that you sign a consent form for an epidermal just so you will have the opportunity to review the risks before you are in the middle of labor. Keep labor natural and refuse the epidermal, don’t worry you can do it. Don’t be fooled an epidermal can actually retard labor progress forcing unnecessary complications.
Don’t Rush Things
A labor augmenter Pitocin may be suggested to you in order to speed up your labor. A natural way that you can start your contractions is to walk around or use nipple stimulation.
Ripen On Your Own
Your baby will put pressure on the cervix on his or her own to ripen it. The expression a ripen cervix means that the cervix has softened and become thin enough that it will be able to begin dilating. Prostaglandin is a common medication that is used to induce childbirth, and to induce an abortion, the packaging of the drug has a warning stating to not give it to pregnant woman.
Let Your Water Break On Its Own
An amniotomy, when a doctor uses an amniohook, a long crochet type hook with a prickled end, to rupture your amniotic sac causing your water to break artificially, is unnecessary. Once again don’t rush things just let you water break on its own. You may not even go to the hospital until your water has broke anyway.
When the hospital staff that is involved in your labor insist that your baby’s heart rate is monitored, they may suggest adding an internal fetal monitor, placing a needle on the top of the baby’s head, but putting a belt like monitor around your belly is an effective way to monitor the babies heart rate. If you move a lot during your labor, and obviously you will because you’ll be in labor, the belt will move and the staff won’t be able to monitor the baby. A natural and simple solution is to have one of the staff members simply hold the belt in place by resting their hand on the monitor and applying little or no pressure, while you move to get comfortable during your contractions.
Let It Rip
An episiotomy is unnatural so you will just want to tear on your own. It isn’t as bad as it sounds, ripping is natural, your skin will stretch and tear at the weakest points, some woman don’t actually tear they just stretch. It is incredibly unlikely that you would need stitches from tearing naturally.
You Are In Labor, You Don’t Need Catheters and IVs
There is no reason that you have to have a catheters , the staff is quite cable for discreetly cleaning up any bathroom accidents that may happen in labor. As for IV’s you can choose to refuse them, the purpose of them is to help a woman in labor keep her strength up. However, hospitals will increase the dotage of the IV in order to slow down contraction so they can give you such things as Prostaglandin, something to think about. If you can though eat a big meal before you go into the hospital, something that you may not be able to do if your labor doesn’t have a lot of early signs, so you can help keep your strength up. Hospitals will not likely let you eat or drink water once you are admitted.
You can make a birth plan in order to ensure that all of your wishes for the labor and birth are met. A natural birth is a truly beautiful thing.
