This simple Poker Chip candle votive is the perfect gift that you can make for the hostess who loves to host the weekly poker night. Almost anyone I know would love to get this whimsical and poker themed Poker Chip candle votive.
Overall it should take about 30 minutes or less to make the whole project. The best part of this simple Poker Chip candle votive is that it uses empty glass food jars you might have leftover in the kitchen.
To Make This Simple Poker Chip Candle Votive For You Will Need:
Glass Jar or Empty Spaghetti or Pickle Jar (no lids)
Vintage Jewelry (lots of them)
Hot glue or tacky glue
Candle (Pillar Candle or tea candle)
Now, the first step is to thoroughly clean your glass food jar. I like to use an ammonia base cleaner to make sure I get all of the sticky food label off of the outside of the empty glass jar.
Now, plug in your hot glue gun.
Go ahead and lay out your Poker Chips. I find that clay poker chips look best. Plastic poker chips are ok, but sort of do not look as nice as the professional clay poker chips.
The good thing about using hot glue is that you can easily pop the Poker Chip off if you need them back after a loosing poker hand!
Now, Squeeze out some glue onto the back of the Clay Poker Chips. Press the Clay Poker Chips into the outside of the glass food jar. I like to start on the bottom edge of the glass jar and work my way up gluing on the Clay Poker Chips.
Now, work around and around the glass jar. Work up attaching the Clay Poker Chips and pieces until you get about 2/3 of the glass jar. Leave the top few inches plain.
Now, glue one row of Clay Poker Chips around the mouth of the jar. You want to choose one color of multiple colors of Clay Poker Chips, just make sure that they cover the mouth of the jar where the lids screws on. This will create more finished Clay Poker Chips candle votive that makes a good hostess gift.
Slip a tea candle or pillar candle into the Vintage Jewelry candle votive and you are finished.
For a whimsical or contemporary look try Clay Poker Chips that you spray paint all one glossy color, like bright pink or Kelly green. Find a plaid vintage ribbon in those colors to match and tie it around the mouth of the jar. A girl might like this poker chip candle votive better than a guy!
You can also use other retro colors like robins egg blue and white.
You could also buy mismatched vintage clay poker chips at the local flea market.
For a shabby chic look try painting all of the Clay Poker Chips in an antique white color. Use sand paper to rough it up a little. Then, rub some wood gel stain or wood tinted wax on the vintage jewelry. Create at least three of these candle votives and display them on your fireplace mantel.
Don’t forget you will be able to see any glue that leaks out form behind the Clay Poker Chips, so do not put so much that it squishes out on the sides.
Also, try to butt the Clay Poker Chips up next to each other on the candle votive as close as they will go.
