How to Make Digital Pictures, Without a Digital Camera

by sumonova

Have you desired to have a digital photograph with the old pictures you have around the house? There are several ways to change regular pictures into a digital format. We are going to discuss the various ways to make a digital image, without using a digital camera. Most of the methods I am going to outline are able to easily take the photographs you already have and convert them to a digital format. The most obvious way to obtain a digital photograph is through the use of a digital camera; however, that will not solve your problem for older photographs.

Method #1. Scanner -This is a way you can easily transfer your own images from photographs to the computer and make them digitally without having to pay someone else, or wait long periods of time. This may take longer to do yourself depending upon how many photos you are scanning. If you are only doing a few, it will only take a few minutes, however doing hundreds of photos could easily take hours.

Method #2. Film Scanner -If you have lost the majority of your photographs, whether just lost or they were destroyed, this is an option if you still have the negatives. A film scanner is similar to a scanner, except these only scan negatives or slides. These are a bit more expensive, as well as you need to make sure there are no compatibility issues before spending the money to purchase the film scanner.

Method #3. Picture CD -This involves taking your photographs to a photography lab and having the lab scans your pictures onto a CD. These CD’s typically hold a great many photo’s the sizes of the photos are only saved at 1534 x 1024 pixels, so that the images can be modified for the intended use.

Method #4. Photo CD -While at first appearance, you would think this is the same as a Picture CD, this is a bit different. One of the biggest differences is that instead of only one size image each photo is saved in five different sizes, which allows the best versatility in altering the images. Because of the photos being stored in four different sizes, they are typically only able to hold 100 photos per CD. Due to the various sizes that are created from each picture, the price of a Photo CD is a bit more than a Picture CD.

As you can see, there is a solution for almost everyone. Ranging from those who choose to allow someone else to do the work, to those who prefer transferring the images themselves. Price ranges vary, for the cheapest method for hundreds to thousands of prints a scanner is the best option.
