As you know schools are very quickly approaching their winter recess, when most children have about two weeks off from school. But what many parents do not realize is that many children end up bored out of their minds during this time. Of course some get to see some relatives that they have not seen in a while, but unless they have planned out activities their entire winter recess may be spent doing absolutely nothing. If you are a parent then you should really start planning now what activated you can do with your kids. Unfortunately many of us would love to take our children on some type of trip, but many just can not afford to do this. Following are a few suggestions on fun things you can do, that will not cost you a lot of money.
1. Plan a two day sleep over/ movie party! You can have your child send out little invitations to invite over some of their friends for a two day party. The reason why I say only two days is because most parents will only be able to physically keep up with a large group of children for two days. You can buy or rent a bunch of movies and order pizza for their first night. Try planning some fun games that get’s everyone up and dancing and having a really good time. It may also be a good idea to have some sort of theme for the sleep over and decorate your house accordingly. Let your children have a large part in the planning process; this will really make the entire event a lot more exciting.
2. Plan a few educational trips to local museums or aquariums. These types of trips are not only very educational but a lot of fun. In addition to the fact that they usually do not require a lot of money. Check online to see what type of educational activates there are in your area, and check the hours. Usually during the holiday season a lot of the hours are a little different than normal.
3. Put on a play for family and friends. You can actually have your children spend a few days writing a play themselves. Then you can invite family and friends over for a play party. You can try to get the whole family involved in the play. Make your own costumes and everything.
4. Take them on a shopping spree. What kids does not like to buy some stuff for them. You can also make this an educational experience. First you will need to purchase a gift card for each of your children to their favorite store. Then give them the gift card and let them know how much they have to spend on whatever they want. This is a good way to teach your children the value of a dollar, as well as allowing them to have a good time. You can do this for each day of their vacation. You may be thinking that this can be an expensive way to keep your children occupied, but not if you put not more than five to ten dollars per card. It would also be a challenge for them to find something at each store that they want within their price range. You may not think that this can be fun for kids, but I have tried it and the kids end up having a ball. Just make sure to keep what stores you will be going to a surprise, this helps to add to the fun.
These are just a few ideas and suggestions on how to keep your kids from being bored during their winter recess. The key is to plan things out in advance so that you don’t have to be stressed out from the kids being home. Learn to enjoy every minute that you have with your children, instead of just telling them to find something to do. You should also take the time to listen to their suggestions; you may be surprised at what they want to do during their winter recess.
