To Make These Simple Tin Can Label Candle Votives You Will Need:
Tin Can Labels
The first steps is to remove the labels from your food cans. If you want to use the label before you open the can of food, then simply write on the can with a black permanent marker so you know what is in there. Look for canned foods with colorful or even vintage looking labels.
Once you remove the labels, then use scissors and pinking sheers to trim them down and neaten up the edges. You can use pinking sheers to create some neat labels!
Make a whole pile of the cut out labels and then start creating.
Now, thoroughly wash out their empty food jars with soap and water. Then dry them completely. You can use vintage canning jars, new canning jars, recycled pickle jars, and even recycled spaghetti jars!
Now, use the paintbrush to paint some decoupage medium on the front of the Tin Can Label cut out from the cans of food.
You need to reach your hand in to the jar and place them facing out.
Now, use the paintbrush dipped into decoupage to paint on the backside of the cut out Tin Can Label.
Continue this process around the entire inside of the empty food jar.
Try placing some of the labels at an angle.
Now, let the decoupage medium dry completely.
Now, if there was a lid for the food jar go ahead and wash it out.
Drill a hole in the middle of the lid. Insert the blade of a jigsaw in there and cut out the inside of the lid. Leave the part where it screws on to the food jar.
Use a metal file to smooth any rough edges.
Now, use a can of brightly colored spray paint that matches your food can label and paint the lid.
Once this dries insert a candle into the jar and replace the lid.
The decoupage will dry clear; so do not worry about how it looks going on.
If you do not have any old Tin Can Label you can use print outs from your computer of reproduction tin can labels.
Tea candles also look great in these candle votives made of recycled materials. You could also use floating candles in the glass jars!
