Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. This year, you are determined to get your sweetie a great gift. But your pockets aren’t as full as they could be, so what should you do? An expensive night on the town is out of the question and so is jewelry or perfume.
Here are some gift ideas for men and women that won’t break the bank.
Think
That’s probably the best advice you can get. What is it that your sweetheart really likes? Is there something that you could do or say that would really make his or her day? What is it that gets your partner overwhelmed? What can you do to help?
Picnic Lunch
A picnic lunch is a great Valentine’s Day gift. It does not have to be expensive. Just thoughtful. What are your sweetie’s favorite treats? Do they pack up well? Consider surprising your partner with a picnic basket (or shopping bag) full of treats.
If you can, take her to lunch somewhere pretty. It’s probably too cold to sit in the park, but you could sit in the car in the park. Or you could drive to the beach and eat your treats in the car.
If your Valentine can’t break away from the job, consider packing up some treats or a lunch and dropping it off with a big smooch. I’ll bet that he or she will just love telling coworkers about how thoughtful you are and bragging about your treat all day.
Cook Dinner
If you are trying to think of a Valentine’s Day gift for a woman, why not cook dinner for her? You don’t have to make anything fancy. Your efforts and thoughtfulness will probably be gratefully appreciated. Make sure you do it all yourself. Shop, cook and clean.
Breakfast in Bed
This is a great idea for spoiling your loved one on Valentine’s Day. Who wouldn’t love to be woken up to a breakfast being served to you in bed? If your Valentine starts off the morning with the newspaper or something similar, be sure to include it on the tray. Again, don’t try to be a gourmet, just a regular breakfast will do. But be sure to clean up and serve it with love.
Free time
Of course you will want to spend Valentine’s Day with your sweetie, but maybe some free time would be a great gift. If your husband or wife seems to be always running ragged, why not offer to take the kids one Saturday? This way, you Valentine can have some down time to spoil his or her self. Again, your thoughtfulness will be appreciated.
Laundry and Housework
Taking over some of the household chores is a great gift idea. Whether you are a man or woman, you probably have lots of chores which take up your weekends and free time. Wouldn’t it be lovely if your Valentine offered to do the dishes for a month or to walk the dog for you all week? Here are some suggestions:
- Do the laundry
- Make the bed
- Do the dishes
- Clean the house
- Get the car washed
- Do the ironing
- Offer to mow the lawn in the Spring
- Shovel in the next snow storm
- Go to the supermarket
- There are lots of chores you can do for your Valentine
Set Up a Surprise Gathering
Does your husband love sports and you don’t? Why not host a surprise gathering with some of his buddies for the next big game. Don’t forget some munchies.
If your wife just can’t miss Desperate Housewives, or any particular television program, why not arrange to have some of her friends over to watch it? Don’t forget something like a bottle of wine and maybe some munchies. You can get some easy to heat frozen snacks which are delicious.
Romance
Of course, Valentine’s Day is all about romance. If you are trying to think of something that will leave you Valentine weak in the knees, here are some ideas.
- Send a romantic card every day for a week your Valentine’s office. He or she will love to show off you thoughtfulness.
- Leave love notes around the house. A short little love note tucked into several unexpected places will surely bring a smile to your Valentine’s lips.
- Leave single flowers where they will be found all day. You don’t have to buy expensive flowers. Leave one for your Valentine to see first thing in the morning. Maybe one with the breakfast cereal, on in the car, etc. Little surprises throughout the day will really make your Valentine happy.
- Drive your valentine to work. Your sweetie will love the extra attention and effort of you chauffeuring him or her around.
- Offer to chauffer your Valentine around town to help with errands.
Think Some More
What is it that would bring a smile to your Valentine’s lips? What is it that you can do to really make your sweetie’s day? As you can see from these suggestions, a fantastic and thoughtful gift does not have to be expensive.
