Design television shows are a hit. There is “Trading Spaces”, “Design on a Dime”, “Room Makeover”, etc. There is even an entire network dedicated to the art of home design. Perhaps this is why there is such a need for new home decor. People flock to books, magazines, and television programs that can give them tips on how to decorate their own homes. Designing a home doesn’t usually come cheap. Most people don’t have $50,000 budgets like the Oprah show. Here are a few design ideas to give each room in your house a new face-lift.
Living Room Design
The first thing you should do to your living room is de-clutter. Living rooms are notorious for being filled with nick knacks and junk people no longer need. Once you throw away all unneeded items, it is time for the real design face-lift. If you would like to change the color of your furniture, buy couch and chair covers. Then, once you have the desired look, go to the nearest discount store and purchase a couple throw pillows to match. People will think you have bought new furniture.
The easiest way to give a kitchen a design makeover is to change the cabinets and water fixtures. Since cabinets are expensive to purchase, simply paint your old and add new hardware. You can easily do this for $100. Once the cabinets are painted, purchase a new water faucet to match your cabinet hardware. It will look like you remodeled your whole kitchen for less than $150.
Adding mirrors to a bedroom is a great way to design a face-lift. Mirrors are classic, yet contemporary. They give the impression of a much larger space than what is actually there. One of the neatest places to put a mirror is right behind the bed as a headboard. All of these mirrors you can find at your local craft and design store for less than $200.
In your bathroom you can incorporate the design tricks used in the other rooms of your house. For example, a water fixture change would make a great face-lift. Also, by changing your mirror, it will look like you have replaced the entire vanity. If you want a cheaper approach, simply buy a new bathroom set that includes a tissue holder, soap dish, toothbrush holder, and soap dispenser. Even with a small touch, your guests will take notice.
Designing and redesigning your home does not have to break the bank. If you use these simple tricks, your house will look like it has received a design face-lift.
