The infant that was taken from a Texas hospital, from a woman posing as a nurse, has been found and is alive and well. according to NBC News.
The 3 day old baby girl that was taken out the the hospital early Saturday morning was recovered in Clovis, New Mexico on Sunday morning, according to police reports. Lubbock police acted on a tip that a woman matching the description of the kidnapper was seen in Clovis, N?M> Police in Clovis were contacted and they were able to find the infant. Police found the suspect in her vehicle after she dropped of the baby at another home for another person to babysit.
The suspect is in police custody.
CNN Reported that a 3 day old infant girl was abducted from a Lubbock, Texas hospital, by a woman posing as a nurse on Saturday. The Lubbock Police Department was notified on March 10, 2007 at approximately 1:20 am. The patrol officers responded and began an immediate search for the victim and suspect.
The infant was identified as Mychael Darthard-Dawodu. She is of African-American descent, has jaundice and weights about 5.2 pounds, according to the Amber Alert issued by the Lubbock Police Department..
The baby was in need of medical attention. The police asked for the baby’s safe return.
The baby was wearing a security bracelet, but it was removed. The hospital’s sophisticated security system caught the woman walking through the hall on tape. The video tape of the woman in the hall is on the CNN website, and can be viewed on the Internet.
Family members and hospital staff who viewed the surveillance video say they don’t recognize the woman, according to police.
The Senior Vice President of the hospital, Covenant Medical Center, made a statement in a news conference. Gwen Stafford said that she would not release details about the mother because of privacy concerns. She said that the mother was “distraught and devastated”. Authorities have expressed concern for the care and feeding of the infant. Babies within the first three days need either milk or a special solution.
CBS News reported that Stafford stated that the suspect went into the mothers’ room several times before the baby was taken. Reportedly, the suspect told the mother that the baby needed treatment.
Police say that the infant could still be with her suspected kidnapper. The kidnapper is driving a late-model red Dodge pickup truck with black trim and tinted windows.
The suspect is described as about 5’3″, medium build, African American, in her 20’s with hair dyed auburn, according to the Amber alert She was last seen wearing pink nurse’s scrubs with purple and blue flowers and a gray or tan winter coat with a fur hood.
