Have you ever had a bad hair day? I dare to say that day might even be today. It’s not only the ladies that suffer from limp, dry, brittle and just plain untamed hair; some of you guys can testify to having one or two bad hair days as well. We can always grab that staple that can be found in every man, woman, boy or girls closet; that’s right, the all American fitted cap that displays your favorite slogan, team or cause. The cap thing works for most guys but sometimes it can be a little challenging for us ladies. What if you’re in the mood to wear something a little nicer than the jeans or sweats? I suppose we ladies can try some other cover-ups such as this seasons trendy head scarves or head band. Although, I think the head scarves are chic, the head bands give me a headache every time. There’s got to be a better solution then the cap, scarf and dreaded head band!
I say if you have hair why cover it up, why not try and tame it. A little over 10 years ago, I wore my hair long and it was okay until the wait at the beauty salon went from 2 hours to 5 hours. I suffered through for some years in the name beauty but finally I gave up and began wearing my hair in a ponytail most of the time or straight back and when I wanted a little something extra, I would flip the ends with a flat iron. When summer came back around, it was just too much work, so I cut my hair down to about neck length thinking this would be the answer to my hair woes. Not! I could longer wear my signature pony tail because it was too short, so I had to style it, UGH! What had I done! I called my former stylist and asked from some suggestions and she told me to find a good hair moisturizer and just wear it natural. My hair is naturally curly, but I have been straitening it since I was 18, so this was a new concept to me, but I was up for the challenge.
Not only is my hair naturally curly but it’s a little dry from years of flat irons and hair dryers. It was hard finding the right mix of conditioners and moisturizes but I searched high and low; in drug stores and departments stores and even online. All the products I tried were either too oily or too dry so I literally put my search on the back burner. That is until one day I returned home from a visit to my local beauty supply store where I purchased something for someone else and noticed that the sales person had left some hair care samples in the bag. I figured what can it hurt; I might as well try these since I’ve tried everything else. I tried each of these samples at different times so I could compare them. I came to find out that I loved them all for different reasons. I did it; I found the answer when I wasn’t even looking. Isn’t it always like that; the very thing you desire just shows up when you least expect it. These moisturizers left my hair soft and manageable and allowed me to wear my hair straight or curly and still look great. Here are new favorite hair care products:
1. IC (Inter Cellular) – This is a leave in hair moisturizer for dry hair with Aloe complex. The first time I used this product I was sold! The consistency is a mixture of light oil and water and it leaves your hair smooth and manageable. Many times I find that I have to use a little gel to make my hair stay in place, but with this product I don’t use any because once you put it in a style your hair you are set all day!
2. Organic Root Stimulator – This product is made by Namaste’ Laboratories, L.L.C and is an oil moisturizing hair lotion with Olive Oil. This product is great to use right after you shampoo and condition your hair. The consistency of this product is thick and rich, therefore I would not recommend daily use of this product because it can tend to leave residue in your hair. Using this product once a week should leave your hair manageable and healthy.
3. Motions At Home – This is a hair lotion that conditions and softens your hair. This product is also good to use after you shampoo and condition your hair because it is great for detangling hard to manage hair. The consistency of this product is a true hair lotion, because it is extremely thick and should be used sparingly.
These products are really great if you tend to work out a lot and need to wash your hair daily; with the natural ingredients contained in the products, they will keep your hair healthy and manageable. So, there you have it folks; you can either cover it up or get it manageable so you can get on with your life.
