There are so many religious and so called Christian organizations all over the world, that there is no wonder that the world is full of confusion, strife, idolatry, bitterness, unbelief and unforgiveness. There are people who have heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ but believe it to be no more than a fictional character depicted in a 2000 year old book of fables.
Recently a very good friend of mine who has been a believer for almost 20 years made a statement to me that astonished me. She had been going through what I call some firey trails and said “You know Karen, I just don’t know what this Christian walk is about.” “I’ve been a Christian for 20 years and my life has been pure hell, but when I was in the world I always had money and was fulfilled”.
I looked at her with compassion and responded, “No, that’s not true, when you were in the world you were in darkness, and now that you have come into the truth, you are in the light”. I went on to tell her that the bible says not only are we the children of light, but we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!
I was so shaken that someone that loves God and has been a faithful Christian for 20 years would make such a statement. Although, I do know some other people that have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior simply to escape the flames of hell, but God said that I have come to give you life and life in abundance. Abundance means, extremely plentiful or over sufficient quantity or supply: overflowing fullness; affluence, wealth. This made me want to take a closer look at who Jesus is and what His word teaches.
Who is Jesus? The dictionary defines Jesus as a teacher and a prophet born in Bethlehem and active in Nazareth; His life and sermons form the basis for Christianity. Yes, Jesus was indeed a teacher and Prophet and based on His life the Christian movement evolved, but if we just stopped there all Christians would be lost and their would be in hope or purpose for us to live this life.
The bible’s definition of Jesus is a little different. The bible tells us in Matthew 16:13-17 that, When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ,” “the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
Now that we’ve confirmed through the word that Jesus Christ is the Son of God than why are so many believers living in the bondage of disbelief? Could it be our faith? Faith according to Webster’s is defined as confidence or trust in a person or thing; faith in another’s ability…belief that is not based on proof, belief in God in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the pilgrims: belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
The bible defines faith in Hebrews 11 as, NOW faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. The bible says we have not, because we ask not, or we ask of God with wrong intentions and motives.
I know thousands of people that would like to be independently wealthy, but why? If God made a billion dollars fall out of the sky for you today, what would you do with it? Buy another house or car or maybe a little bling bling or would you give it to the Kingdom of God to spread the Gospel or help the poor and homeless?
There is a statement that one of my former co-workers made to me over 10 years ago that I’ll never forget. We were chosen by the Senior Vice President to form a committee to discuss issues regarding competitive salaries and benefits for the support staff and she said she was a Christian and found it hard to sit on this committee because she’s never felt that she didn’t make enough money because she didn’t buy things she didn’t need.
When she made that statement I knew it was true of most people. Although there are circumstances in our world today that still promote racism and sexism, we have to know who we are in Christ. We are Kings kids and have access to the Kingdom. God owns the earth and everything that’s in it. When we become Christian’s we are now co-heirs with Jesus Christ and the difference in being an heir in God’s Kingdom and being an heir in the world, is the fact that you don’t have to wait until someone dies to get your inheritance. You can have it right NOW! The bible says that if an evil man knows how to give good gifts to his son, than how much more than that will your Heavenly Father do for or give to you.
The bible says we must FIRST, seek His Kingdom and His righteousness and ALL these other things will be added to us. The bible speaks over and over again about all of the miracles that Jesus performed and all of the supernatural provision He gave to believers and unbelievers alike.
So, the question remains…is Jesus a fraud?
