Is Princess Diana’s Memorial an Insult to Her Memory?

by sumonova

The Daily Mail (dailymail.co.uk) has published an article, written by Richard Kay and Geoffrey Levy, about plans for an August Memorial service for Princess Diana, along with the opinion that the plans are an insult to the memory of the beloved “people’s princess.”

The British Royal Family has been plans for a service in a venue that is too small to include most of her friends. Additionally, the person that many blame for destroying the marriage of Princes Charles and Princess Diana will be prominently displayed in the front pew.

The memorial service is planned to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana’s death on August 31.

Reportedly, Prince William, 24, and Prince Harry, 22, will draw up the guest list for the memorial service. the service is planned to be held at The Guards Chapel at Wellington Barracks. The princes will be assisted by Diana’s brother and sisters, who are their uncle and aunts. Earl Spencer, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and lady Jane Fellowes will be involved in the arrangements.

It was reported that The Princes have specifically asked for their stepmother, the former Mrs. Camilla Parker Bowles, to be present. Camilla was the longtime mistress of Prince Charles since before the prince married Princess Diana. Camilla boldly attended the wedding of Charles and Diana.

The Guard’s Chapel, which seats a maximum of 500 people, is a venue that probably means more to Camilla than Diana. It is the locations where Camilla married Captain Andrew Parker Bowles in 1973.

The Princes are said to be shouldering the responsibly for selecting the small venue, but it is unknown whose advice they are taking.

The Daily Mail articles legitimately asking the question. “On which point, one is entitled to ask, since they are understood to have rejected St. Paul’s’ because it was where their parents were married, why choose a venue where their step=mother was first wed?”

The article is that the princes favored the chapel “because of it’s intimacy” The BBC will broadcast the service.

Because of the public outpouring of love for “The People’s Princess” Westminster Abbey seems like it would be a more appropriate choice for the memorial service.

Reportedly, people are also baffled by the choice of the Bishop of London, Richard Charltres to give the memorial address. The Royal Family may view Charltres as a safe choice, due to his long term friendship to Prince Charles. Friends of the Princess claim that Chartles barely knew the princess. There are friends of Princess Diana who have never forgiven Charltres for failing to carry other explicit wishes for the distribution of her estate. As one of her trustees, he was bound to make sure that her “letter of wishes’ was carried out.

Instead of sharing some fine pieces of valuable items with Diana’s 17 godchildren, Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah and Diana’s late mother, Mrs. Frances Shand Kydd, drove around in an estate car handing out trinkets wrapped in old newspapers.

Few people knew at the time that Diana’s “letter of wishes” had been struck out on a legal technicality. Therefore her executors did not carry out her wishes.Because people view Chartles as a negligent trustee, they see him as unsuitable as a memorial speaker.

The memorial service, which has the potential to be an insult to Princess Diana, is just another symptom of the seeming disregard and disrespect that the British Royals hold for the princess.

The charity in her name, “The Princess of Wales Memorial Fund” has taken one misstep after another. They have spent millions on lawsuits and causes that were never identified with Diana. The Princess of Wales Memorial Fund is administered by Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah.

The Daily Times article predicted that the funding for projects that Diana did identify with, such as Aids, land mines, and special care for terminally ill children, will lack funding because the Memorial is diverting funds to other causes.

Diana’s Memorial Fountain in Hyde Park, London, has been plagued with problems, including high bacteria and slippery surfaces.

There is a memorial to Diana just yards from her former home, Kensington Palace. The Diana Memorial Playground was opened without the presence of any Royal personage, including her sons. Reportedly, they all had other plans.

The information, as presented in The Daily Mail, does seem to indicate that the memory of Princess Diana of Wales is being sullied by “political correctness”, bungling and special interests of all the involved parties.
