Memphis Style Marriage Proposals

by sumo nova

Think you want to get married? You know a wonderful woman, or man, and you want to ask this special someone to take the plunge and risk going bankrupt in divorce proceedings with you years down the road of married life? If this is you, look no further. Memphis, Tennessee is a city that offers a wide variety places that are offering elegant, rustic, campy, or rock and roll spots to propose marriage to your honeybunny (or future enemy).

Feed the Heart

A great spot to propose – especially if you don’t like the wind and possibility of rain – can be found at the corner of G.E. Patterson and South Main Street in beautiful downtown Memphis. The Arcade is the oldest restaurant in our city of Memphis, Tennessee. You can propose to your sweetie over the delicious hand dipped milkshakes while you honey rests her hiney on the retro booth seats that make the Arcade that much more interesting. This restaurant has plenty of history as well, and you can tell your sweetheart that just as this restaurant has been feeding customers in need of nourishment for many decades, the two of you can feed each other love for the coming decades.

Propose while looking out the window and the beautiful section of Memphis, Tennessee known as the South Main Arts District that has recently been rejuvenated by art galleries and boutiques. After the two of you are finished planning your lives together, you can take a stroll down Main Street and check out the architecture and sights so beautiful that filmmakers have used it in movies. If you’d rather not walk, jump on the Memphis Trolley that runs down Main Street across downtown. Ride the trolley, and see the beautiful sites of downtown Memphis from a cozy seat in an antique style Trolley.

River Guide

Memphis, Tennessee, has a natural wonder known as the Mighty Mississippi Riverrunning along the western city limits. The cobblestones offer a lovely backdrop to what could be one of best or worst moments of your life. As long as the weather permits, the two of you can take a walk in the Civil War Park that sits on the top of the bluffs that give Memphis her nickname, Bluff City, and have a seat on the benches overlooking the Mississippi River. Looking out at the river, you can tell your sweetie as you propose that the river has a history that mirrors your own relationship.

The river was a major mode of transportation for people before trains became popular between New Orleans, Memphis, and St. Louis. Today, the Mississippi River is still a major mode of transportation of goods. The Mississippi River is also a way for people to gamble on riverboats in cities that don’t allow gambling establishments on land. Love is a gamble; love is a long personal journey; love is a highly valued commodity. Tell your sweetheart, your love is as strong as the currents that move down the river. In Memphis, this is an excellent place to propose marriage to the one you love.

Floral Abundance

The Memphis Botanic Gardens is one of the most beautiful spots in the city. Proposing at this oasis of visually stimulating wonders is a sure fire way to let your sweet pea know that your love is like a flourishing garden. The gardens sport 96 acres with over 23 specialty gardens. One of these gardens is the Japanese Garden of Tranquility has Koi fish and turtles swimming in a pond surrounded by several varieties of bamboo.

The Wildflower Woodland Garden has the natural cure for poison ivy, the Jewel Weed, and many other types of wildflowers that are labeled. The Anne Heard-Stokes Butterfly was designed to attract butterflies. Tell your honey in this garden that your love is so powerful it will attract flutters in the heart for all of eternity. Find your favorite of the many fantastic spots on the Memphis Botanic Gardens grounds to propose to your significant other.

These are my three favorite places in Memphis for setting the stage of a marriage proposal, but don’t forget places like Graceland and the Heartbreak Hotel, across the street from the home of the King, Of course, if you love Rock and Roll, try the cafe at Sun Studios, the place where Rock and Roll took root in the world of music.
