To Paint a Metallic Plate Charger You Will Need:
Unfinished wooden plate chargers
Primer
Interior Late paint
Metallic Glaze
Paint trays
Painter’s Tape
Paint brushes
Paint Rollers
You can buy unfinished wooden plate chargers at almost any arts and craft store. I also find them at wood working shops as well. You can also us plastic plate chargers as well.
Now, go ahead and spray on a coat or two of Kilz spray paint primer. This will help you paints and metallic glazes adhere to the plate chargers.
The first step when applying any type of metallic glaze to a plate charger is to choose the right base coat of interior latex paint.
You need to paint the wall with a base coat of interior latex paint in a color that will complement the metallic glaze on you r plate charger.
This means for a metallic silver plate charger , you should always use a gray interior latex paint for your base. For a copper metallic plate charger you should always use a reddish or terra cotta base color in interior latex paint. Finally, for a gold metallic plate charger you need to always use yellow or golden tan interior latex paint for the base paint color. Go for a dark yellowed tan color that looks a lot like mustard for a gold metallic paint finish.
Silver, copper and gold metallic glazes applied over a base coat of white or black will not look right, so this is one time that you need to use the right color of paint.
Now, you need to simply roll on the base interior coat of latex paint in the appropriate color on your plate chargers. Allow this paint color to dry.
Now, once this first coat of paint has dried you need to roll on the glaze with a foam roller.
You could also paint it the on the plate charger with a soft bristled paint brush in an X motion. I love how this looks on the metallic plate chargers. It gives a nice texture.
The great thing about a faux paint treatment on the plate chargers that uses glaze is that glaze can often stay wet a little longer than traditional paint, which extends the time you have to work with it.
Now, once this coat of glaze has dried on your metallic plate chargers you have one more final step.
You need to spray on three coats of clear acrylic spray paint. Apply one coat, then let it dry. Repeat two more times.
The reason for this clear coat is to protect your newly painted plate chargers. This will allow you to wash them with a damp sponge.
