As America recognizes the valuable contributions our military provides, more and more business are recognizing these citizens by offering service members discounted or free admission when they take their leave and vacation with their families. While many restaurants and hotels offer military discounts, some theme parks offer free admission. Afterwards, if you are traveling near a military base, accommodations may be offered which may save families even more money, as opposed to a standard hotel discount.
Anheuser-Busch theme parks have a “Here’s to the Heroes” program that allows military families to visit one of their parks during the year for free. Some of the parks have multiple locations and include: Bush Gardens, Sea World, Sesame Place, Adventure Island, and Water Country USA. An online registration form can be filled out, or guests may inquire about the program at each theme park’s guest services.
Another theme park, Six Flags Over Georgia, offers free admission to military personnel on their branch- specific day. During Independence Day week, all military personnel receive half off the regular admission price of a ticket; however, Six Flags has an individual day for each branch of the military. On that day, a service specific member and their family can get in for free, up to four tickets. Members have to present their ID cards at the ticket booth to receive either offer.
Further south, the city of St. Augustine, Florida has an annual PAL day where service members can visit many of the city’s attractions for free. The USO hosts the annual event, and offers it during the first weekend in December. While many attractions are free to military personnel, some are only free to members in uniform, and others don’t offer free admission to their families, so it is best to check with the individual museum or attraction first.
While taking advantage of the free or discounted admission at many of these locations, it is also helpful to locate the closest base to the attraction. This is particularly helpful to travelers who may be unfamiliar with the area and are seeking a safe and secure hotel to stay in. Almost all bases have guest accommodations and they are offered at very reasonable rates. In addition, since they are located on a military base, there is no tax, which can save travelers money. If traveling by RV, many also have RV parks or campsites available. Taking advantage of these great offers is just one more way to enjoy the benefits of military life.
