Mobile Alabama Festival of Flowers
Providence Hospital Campus
This is more than flowersat the Mobile Alabama Festival of Flowers although there are plenty of them with exhibits and demonstrations. There will be Exhibits by Floral and Horticultural Societies such as Gulf Coast Herb Society, Ikebana International, Chapter 164, Mobile Area Orchid Society, Mobile Botanical Gardens/ReBloom Mobile Master Gardeners of Mobile and Baldwin County and Bonsai. These are the people to bring your questions to about any of their specialities. An Amateur Horticulture Exhibit will be open to anyone who does not get the majority of their income from plants. Think you have a plant that is special? Why not enter. It is worth it just for the fun and the friends you will make.
For those who do not have a lot of room, there will be a demonstration of Container Gardens and Window Boxes. You would be surprised how much you can plant in one of them, if you know the secrets.
Would you like to set the best table in town for your next party? Then stop and see the Designer Tablescapes and pick up some hints and tips from the experts.
You will get tired and hungry with all the walking and activities going on and when you do, stop in at the Garden Café for a light lunch or snack.
The Gardener’s Galleria is the place to come for vendors selling everything, plants and related items as well as speciality food items.
Even if you are not interested in plants, there will be a whole section devoted to lawns and the back yard at the Lawn and Garden Venue.
The Mobile Alabama Festival of Flowers had not forgotten about the children. On the weekend, there will be a whole section devoted just to them with the popular children’s book and show, “The Secret Garden as the Theme”. There will be lots of arts and crafts going on and there will also be a free book give a way.
On Friday, March 24 there will be two demonstrations from two top cooks focusing on cooking with herbs. There is an charge for each one of these, but with what you will learn, and the charge included the general admission for the whole day.
Whether you are a seasoned gardener looking for new and unusual plants, or a beginner, maybe planing the garden for your first home, you will find not only what you want but also the people with the expertise to give you the best of advice. And if you just want to have a nice green lawn, you can get help here too. Don’t leave the kids at home. They will have a great time and learn a bit about gardening to boot. Maybe they will even be inspired to start a little garden of their own.
